R50/53 power stearing is gone
power stearing is gone
after filling the resevoir several times, i think my pump has let go. has anyone else had this problem? i switcheD to lucas PS STOP LEAK and it slowed the loss of fluids but it may have toasted my pump. what should i do first?
You might now need a new pump and a new steering rack...
Mini PS fluid is not compatible with standard ps fluid...which is what was in the leakstop....it softens the seals in the rack, and likely will cause it to fail.
A very $$$ mistake. You might get lucky and flush the P's system, maybe put on a new hose and be ok...or perhaps the rack was what was leaking...
But never use anything but the Petrosin CHF-11S fluid (look it up, I'm 90% sure, but petrosin makes 2 or 3 similar named fluids). Mini, BMW, vw, and some NAPA, etc stores stock it.

I have an '02 and I had to get my pump replace a couple months ago
. It was a very costly fix for sure. When I got it, it had the nosie to it and now it doesnt so I am thinking that i had a slight problem before it decided to finally just give out out. Better get it checked out soon. Good Luck

Yes the only P/S fluid to use is the CHF 11s
Here is what it would look like:

The power steering pumps are pretty common to fail.

PS...find the scource of the leak...
It might be a pump issue, but it could be a hose or a seal on the rack...
Just pouring more oil into a system with a leak (that may have already been dammaged by running it dry, and/or the wrong fluid) is just a waste of money...just dripping your money onto the road!!
A simple $50 hose replacent might now need a $500+ pump and a new rack...$2000+!! not likely, but of you spend less, consideryoueslf lucky!!
