R50/53 What #%*>! was I thinking?
Last Sat, I wanted something to do so I drove down to Santa Monica from Palmdale area just for a little Midnight Motoring. Driving on the PCH I turned Right onto Mulholland having heard so much about it. Now I'm not from Cali so I didn't know what to expect. Thank god I have some experience on the curves having done many night runs on the hills in Japan, but this was crazy!

I live in a very rural part of NJ (if such a thing exists). Very often I find myself on midnight motoring adventures throught the very twisty back roads. There are some really great roads to be torn up. Lots of hairpins, sweepers, etc.
I've had many occassions where the car begins to break loose and a quick recovery is the only thing that keeps me out of a ditch. This is what adds to the excitement of the motoring experience.
You would think that I would have learned my lesson when my Jetta lost a battle with a telephone pole. (may it rest in peace) But, now that I have my MINI, the fun continues.
I know the EBD has saved my a$$ a couple times already.

The TRE run was fantastic. I had such a blast. I've got a stock MC and I had no problems giving those Porsche's a serious run for their money.
See Pix From the Event
The album pix begins with the Lamborghini and ends at Jay Leno. He showed up with this really awesome, but LOUD car.
>>Thanks for the heads up! I missed the Porsche/TRE Motorsports run this weekend, but I definitely plan on driving Mulholland before leaving the area..perhaps during the day though!

I know how you feel! The first time I went to muholland I was scared, amazed and excited at the same time. The turns and curves are crazy! Theres hairpins and embankments and the lanes are very narrow. It was such a rush, I probably almost died a few times that day but the mini stuck to the road like glue!
I went with a bunch of other minis, 3 wrx's and a mazda protege speed. Those wrx's can really tear it up in the canyons...I was able to hang with them for a while but I didn't know the area too well and backed off
Heres some pics from the meet a while back:

Wow Jay Leno showed up octaneguy? That must have been cool.

Yeah, actually at the end of the run, we met at Tapia park--where the picnic was. He came rumbling in--you can see him from the pics. He was very cool. But I was so pissed, I missed the late show--he was supposed to mention it.

Really enjoyable pics OctaneGuy! I forget the name of the car Jay Leno drove, but I saw a car show on tv awhile back that showed him and that car, and he took the tv host for a ride and let him drive it. If I remember right it was built around 1915 to 1920 or somewhere early like that.

After returning to Philadelphia last night from visiting my 14 mo. old granddaughter in San Francisco, as well as family and friends in Santa Cruz and Pacific Palisades, I couldn't resist taking a late night run down Karakung Drive, a twisty road just a minuite from my house.
On the way back I couldn't quite handle a sharp curve. Hitting the brakes, I found myself skidding off the road and headed toward a nice sized tree. The DSC took over from there.......I fished-tailed a couple of times, but quickly recovered, ending up on the road again facing straight ahead. I breathed a huge sigh of relief and went straight home feeling very fortunate. It's not an experience I would like to replicate, but it was actually fun and exciting in a morbid sort of way.
I think now I'm ready for Mulholland Drive......Mini rocks!

Thanks Jazmini. That must have been something! I was standing just a few feet away, and the ground was shaking. I bet driving that beast must shake you up pretty good!!

>> There was one hairpin that scared the crap out of me. After that I took it easy, not having any lights on most of the road added to the excitement.
