R50/53 Finally went on order!
Hello all at NAM! After lurking around here for the past 2 months or so and finally learning a week ago that I've been moved off the wait list and my 2004 IB/Blk MCS is finally "on order" I gotta ask all you that have gone through the waiting process, roughly how long does each step take? I called ASK MINI and they say the car is scheduled for production but a VIN# or date has not been issued yet, as for the mini online tracking the status is still at "On Order". I've done a search in the forum but cant seem to find any specific time frame i should be waiting. I understand that each car probably takes a different amount of time to build but i am just interested in an estimation of how long each process takes in production. Cant wait till I get her so i can start dumping money into mods!
>>congrats, and excellent choice in color!

Thanks, I had to get a color combo that looked good sitting next to the bimmer in the driveway. man that aerokit looks sweet on ur mini, i gotta invest in that asap. Did you get the kit from the dealer or from a aftermarket company?

Your MA should have given you a production number for your MINI once they enter it in the Dealer Ordering System. Your MA knows what month of production they are selling, so call him/her up and obtain the number and production month. Assuming you are a December or January production, your MINI should be completed within a week of the last day of the month of production. If you go to MINIUSA and go into the Owner's Lounge, you can register your car and enter the production number, and MINI will eventually give you a date in the month of production which will be a Friday. By this date, your car should be substantially completed.
Once the car finishes production, it leaves the factory, usually within a week, and travels by train to the port at Southampton where it awaits consignment on a ship to cross the Atlantic to New York or the West Coast. It generally takes a week or so to get loaded and head for the US. The ocean voyage usually takes 8-9 days when the car is off-loaded in NJ, or heads to CA via the Panama Canal---about 2 weeks longer.
Once at the Distribution Center it takes from a few days to maybe 2 weeks to get clear and shipped to the dealer. If you go to http://www.mini2.com and check out the FAQ on shipping of your MINI, there are some good explanations on how the ordering/build process works and how to track your MINI across the ocean.
Some questions:
1. Who and where is your dealer?
2. When did you order the car?
3. Did your MA tell you if it was a December or a January production car?
