We live in a world where, it seems to me, people try to distance and disassociate themselves with others. Example... in the line at Tar-get and the lady in front of us is on the cell the whole time while the ever so patient and friendly associate continues niceties and she responds to none. He told us she does this all the time. Walks in on the phone, out on he phone. Anyway...

The wave thing is a nice thing, I like it now. I do it now when I can. Everyone that fails to wave is not dis'n you though. Sometimes I forget or miss it.

IMO 1st gens do it more.

waving was very frequent when mini's first came out but now that they have been out for almost a decade so the custom of waving has gone down. It sucks but thats the way of the world. I always wave so keep it up and keep the custom alive.

I dont wave, I think its weird and awkward. I will throw deuces to a MINI that is lowered, stanced, modified. But a stock mini i wont.

Had a Corvette and we always waved. Will be getting my (first) MINI by years end and I will continue to wave. Even the head nod of acknowledgement and a half smile will work! It's healthy to be friendly !

There's so many Minis in the SF Bay Area, that we'd be waving all the time. But I did like waving when we were rare. At first, people would even ask to have their picture taken with it or in it! That was cute....and a little weird. lol

I have a 72 Mach 1 mustang (bright gold w/ black stripes) that I take to shows/drive on weekends and of course I get a lot of people giving me a wave/thumbs up in that. (especially from other mustang owners)

Now my daily is an 06 checkmate (blue w/ silver), so it's sorta flashy as well, so I do sometimes get waves from mini owners too. Though I have noticed that it's usually from other flashy/custom mini drivers rather than stock mini drivers.
(which almost never wave back)

I guess the mini's gotten so common that it's more a sign/wave for mutual respect/appreciation each other's cars between two owners rather than "just cause" like it used to be

I toot and wave at every mini. Tonight I was sitting at a light and there was another MINI on the other side. We were both on the front. I started tooting, and you could see the driver start looking around instantly. All the other drivers were looking at me like "shut the .... up, you weirdo"

I have to admit to getting jaded with the MINI wave since most ignore it or give you the death stare.

BUT, I will admit that I enjoy it when someone gives a friendly wave or a toot on the horn - so kudos to you for keeping at it!

There are some of us who really do appreciate it.

Too many MINIs now. We waved when ours was new six years ago. Now I only wave to MINIs that are the same color combo. Clubmans get no love from me at all.

Yes, now that Coopers are more readily available, more of the buyers are just seeking mobile appliances. Like a Toyota or a Honda. The cars are no more special than what kind of toaster they have on their counter. These are the people that will never seek membership in a forum like this one.

Then again, some people are just oblivious to what's around them.

The way I look at it is that I'm waving at the car, not the driver. If he or she waves back, then I know the car is in good hands.

I wave. Sometimes I'll get a wave back. More often than not, I don't. I'll keep waving but from some of the posts above, now I'm wondering if I'm being dissed b/c I'm in a Clubman...

I can't fit a 7 year old in a regular MC. I love MINIs, (which is why I drive one), I've modded what I want to cosmetically, but I know nothing about engines and would only kill my car if I started messing around under the hood. Then I would cry.

ETA: Whoops. I didn't realize this was 1st gen forum until after I posted. *waves*

I own a 2005 jcw and I have never waived at anybody with a mini unless its modified. All stocker mini drivers would do is just look at you funny. Most stockers dont know about the wave. But when I am on my yamaha r1. Thats a different story. all bikers wave. Even the harley guys wave at sport bikers and we wave back. There is a mutal respect that all bikers have for each other that no car club or car enthusist would ever have. thats my 2 cents

Please.......I would NEVER wave. If your waving to woman, she thinks you're trying to pick her up and if its a guy....
well you get the picture.

Haha, where are you in SC? When I am in the Upstate I see more older drivers, but I get more waves there. I live in Mount Pleasant and see wayyy more MINIs in the Charleston area but get a much lower percentage of waves. There are too many people here who think it is just some cute car or are trying to be "green" or something. No waves from them and frankly I wish they would all just pick up a Prius so there would be no ambiguity. I drive like a bat out of hell averaging 24mpg and have fun doing it. But my point is, at least the old guys wave.

I can't believe how serious and uptight people are now...just wave and have fun. It's called being friendly.

Hey...no fair....I just go Oliver and I probably won't modify him other than some basic, easy things cuz I just don't have the skills. I still love to get a wave so don't diss me just because I'm a stocker! I'm still enthusiastic and koo koo over the MINI's and I get very disappointed when you don't wave back at me.
