R50/53 Spy Photos 2005 Minis

Well, a dirty spy photo might not be the best showing for a new model- a far cry from the SEMA show.
Note the front roof mounted angled antenna and the twin rear passenger headrest roll bar protectors.
Mostly a stock 2004 MCS on the outside with a small rear side passenger window-I assume you can roll it down-but that means there are two more toggle switches needed for those rear windows and it is not automatic when you put the top down because in the picture the top is down but the rear windows are up. So how can an almost full toggle bank fit two more switches? Something has got to move. What do ya think about that?

so is the convertable a mcs or mc? there the spy shot has a hood scoop (mcs) but then the side turn signal thing is not chrome and without the S logo on it (mc) and the grill is chrome (mc). is the convertable gonna be in both mcs and mc form or what is happening with that?
edit: i cant really see if the grill is chrome or not actually its hard to tell

It would, of course, be ridiculous if the rear windows wouldn't roll down. Looking at the picture for some reason I don't think they will roll down......or they would have been rolled down.
As a convertible I don't think the MINI looks it's best. Maybe I'll change my mind when I actually see one.

Can you say "Cabriolet"? The MINI is defined by the relationship between body and hardtop roof line, and the 'capped' look of the roof. Can't get behind the convertible. Wouldn't have one. Same thing w/ the Audi TT Roadster. Its roofline is everything. W/out it, it's simply not much to look at. I guess it would be cool to have the top-down experience of a convertible, and some cars, like Vettes or Shelby's Cobra, look great w/out a top. The MINI is not one of them. A very decided $.02 worth.

This is not the real convertible MINI but a mock up picture of one or maybe a one of a kind conversion.
And this from MINI2.com
"While this is a computer aided design image, as opposed to the more common 'spy photo', it is interesting because it comes from a trusted source, and is estimated to be around 90% accurate of how the finished car will look. A couple of interesting features you can see here are the colour coded interior items, and the fact that the rear seat headrests are actually attached to the roll-over bars, not the seat backs themselves."

It does look a little better with the top up, but then that defeats the purpose of a convertible.
Still not for me but I'm sure they will sell well.

the antenna.... the length has always bothered me... and now it's all in your face haha... oh well.
in my opinion... the convertible doesn't do it for me. While there are some convertible cars I like, this just doesn't make my list. But i'm sure there are people out there who would love to buy this car.
it's just like when porsche made their suv. a lot of people spoke agaisnt it saying they should stick to the fast sport coupes... but then a porsche representative said it best: "this is a company first and we need to be able to compete with what the market has available"
happy turkey day!

Good Morning.......
This is what I will do to the convertible............
First I will Lower it 1.5-2", then I will add some fatter flares so I can fitt 8" rims. I would get ridd of those "UGLY"
roll-over hopes and cover up the back seat with a color matched fiberglass tonoue cover, now it's a 2 seater.
Remove the windsheild add a cut down windsheild.......Voila a Spyder Mini...

It kinda' looks like a beetle or a gti with the top down. Very german-common. That said, it still looks like a mini with the top up, and who among us on a hot summer evening wouldn't like to go topless.
Those 'roll bars' look kind of pathetic, tho. Sort of give the impression of an afterthought, stuck on with duct tape.

I´ll have to save my opinion until I look at a real one, with a white soft top.
The black ones look way to bland (and dirty). The yellow one looks pretty neat, but way too much like a vw golf cabriolet (remember the old rabbit cabrios?)
I do agree with most people here that the roof defines the shape of the MINI, and it kind of losses its classic shape with a soft top, but that´s why Minis attract people with very differing tastes.

IMHO, I think it looks pretty good. I only have one nit-pick. That antenna just looks stupid. It reminds me of that one stray hair that you get. You know, the one that pops up on a morning when it can stress you the most. For me that usually happens on the day of an interview. Besides, when you have the top down why would you want to obscure your view with an antenna angled directly above you? Not to mention the amount of wind noise it would probably produce...

I think it makes it look like a radio-controlled car to me. That's not to say I don't like the idea, but the windscreen-placed antenna makes it look even more like a toy.

I don't like it either. And I like convertibles. I like it with the top down but with it up it looks terrible! Like was said above, it looks like a VW. I guess it'll be sweet for 3 months of the year. Not for me though...
PT Cruiser our friend? The only similarity is that they both had a different than mainstream look. End of similarities. That thing is the ugliest and possibly one of the cheapest cars made. It's a Neon with an uglier shell. Like I said, the MINI couldn't be more different. But I get your point. I just hate the PT.
