Noticed that my scoop had disappeared the other day. Seemed to remember what appeared to be something flying over the car. It was like, when a sheet of paper or something like it get picked up and flys at you and over with the help of the aerodynamics. When it happened, didn't think anything of it. Noticed later, NO HOOD SCOOP. Anybody else??? Warranty??? Insurance comprehensive????

Looks somewhat cool. NOT. Will rain be a problem before its replaced????

02 MCS PS/PS 25K MILES.

Hehe... ya i've lost a screw before too... the screws on the scoop seems to come lose very easily...

Rain wont be a problem... rain gets into the intercooler anyways even with the scoop there... and when it does u get a fire breathing MINI...

Warranty of course! That's what it's for...weird, goofy, stuff that breaks or goes wrong when it obviously should not. I'd think that if your dealer tries to fob this off on insurance (which probably won't pay because THEY will correctly assume it's warranty and besides it'll fall under your deductable)...then they're just being all-too-typically slimey MINI dealers. If that happens, call BMW and/or take it to another dealer.

For what it's worth, I've never read another report of this (escaping scoop) happening to any other MCS. That shouldn't have anything to do with your warranty claim.

During a washing I noticed that my scoop had a little play in it. When I looked, one nut was missing and the other was 1/2 unscrewed. I have heard of a few more people having this problem. Afterwards I went around the car and re-tightened everything that I could see.

I think that it would be a valid warranty issue.

For all MCS owners- check the nuts/bolts holding the scoop on periodically. Gravity and vibration are working against you.

MINI dealers have to watch out for those unscrupulous MINI modifiers that take off their scoops so they can paint them a different color and claim to have had them fall off so they can get a free stock replacement if they erver wanted to change back

Mine's missing both nuts and the black panel underneath is cracked from the vibration. I've been meaning to call Ralph Schomp and have them order the piece so I can have it fixed on my next (first) service.

maybe its a good idea to use some of the non-permanent lock-tight stuff on it?

Depending on the color of the MINI I would consider taking the opportunity to get a carbon fiber scoop (less than $200) and then glue it in!

Drop me an email if you're interested in a Carbon Fiber scoop for the MCO (North American Motoring) member discount price. Minihune, I don't believe anyone has 'em in stock under $200.

We include a tube of loc-tite with every scoop.

How about a chrome hood scoop? Does such a thing exist? I think it could look pretty cool.

I just had a ton of warranty work done on my car.One thing they did was replace 2 missing nuts for the hoodscoop. When I put on the carbon fiber bfp scoop a few months ago there was only 2 nuts on the car.So apparently the other 2 fell off sometime.Perhaps this is part of the hood insulation recall? They did that to mine too.

I paid $58 (I think, it was close to that) for a primered scoop from Brian at Classic Auto Campus. Combined shipping with my parcel shelf. I painted it myself, and in my opinion, it looks like crap up close but pretty good from a distance.
