If I see the other person in time I still do, but it is becoming a lost art I guess.

Actually, I was beginning to think it was a lost art until yesterday. I saw my second LY - this one with white bonnet stripes- coming towards me in the other lane on Miccosukee Road in Tallahassee about 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The female driver was all over the waving routine as she drove by. She looked like a very, very happy new MC owner, for sure! It picked me up to have that experience!

I just got my MINI (Cool Blue MCS Convertible black bonnet stripe / blue top)on Tuesday and so far I've seen about 5 MINIs, 2 I've seen 2 mornings in a row and I wave but they don't wave back. I won't give up though but it is a bit of a bummer.

I think a lot of has to do where you are. Since every other car in Boston seems to be a Mini, I don't bother with waving since it's rare I get a wave back. That said, I do wave to the 6 or so Minis that park in my work complex, and I always wave to Minis I see on the highway or around town where my parents live in NH. Up there, they are a lot more few and far between, so waving seems better received.

I'm a relatively new owner, only about a month, and have been looking forward to seeing other Mini owners on the road.

Well, yesterday I saw 4, including one just like mine! (EB/W though he didn't have bonnet stripes) and I was 0/4 on the day for waves. I'm certain one of the drivers saw me--he looked at me like I was crazy!

Kind of a bummer, but I'm going to keep on waving...
Maybe they will get it after a few rounds of waves

I'm now putting my business card with NAM site on back, with "I'll be waving" in the door of parked MINIs.
Yea, call me weird.

Day before yesterday in Closter, NJ, a red MCS gave me a loooong thumbs up as I was filling up with 93 octane at the Exxon. I waved w/ smile. :-)

Too many MINIs around here (and we still don't have a dealer within 30 miles) and too few willing to respond to bother anymore. I will enthusiastically respond though to the out-of-towners that haven't been jaded yet.

The cool thing is, before I bought my 03 MC, I drove my 74 VW bug everywhere. I don't know about elsewere in the bug community, but where I live, It's customary to wave when passing each other on the road. When I first saw someone wave to me while driving my MC, I was quite excited. But nowdays it seems like no one waves anymore. It's begining to sadden me. I'm sure that as soon as I step foot in my bug again, I'll feel like I'm in a parade.

Yes ... always

Funny story ... I had a customer who I was installing graphics on his MINI.

When 1/2 way done he said:
"now those people who think they know me , will STOP waving....."

I had to explain the "MINI family" ... and pointed out that now, with his FLAME graphics that MORE would now be waving because he was MODING !

Getting my Mini tomorrow after driving a Jeep Wrangler for 10 years. Jeeps waive so I guess the tradition will continue. I wonder if Honda Civics waive at each other?

Keep Waving

I have a Jeep Wrangle and a Mini. I have noticed that most people just don't wave as much in the winter, but I am going to keep waving!

You should've told him to wear a big wig and sunglasses -- not that it would help, but it might be fun to see

I still wave and flash lights, but I don't see that many MINIs up here. They all seem to look at me like I'm crazy but I don't care I will continue to wave and flash my lights

I wave, even when I'm in my wife's vehicle. I'm pretty sure I freak a few people out then.

I wave because I drive one of the finest, funest vehicles on the road and if they don't wave back thats their loss.
Because by not waving back they have missed out on being part of something special and more exciting than just driving your car back and forth to work or home.

Nothnig blows away my non-MINI passengers more than to get waved at by every passing MINI.
I have had passengers wonder if I was the mayor of my town or something with all the waves we have gotten from other MINI's.

And there is no greater feeling than that acknowledgement from a fellow MINI enthusiast.

Waving, and other MINI salutations...

I always wave. It used to be everyone would wave and acknowledge another MINI, but I think some of the new MINI motorers are failing to read the literature, especially where it states that waving is an expected courtesy. I think the MINI Police should repo the habitual non-waving offender's MINI and give it to a new owner who will abide by the motoring rules of the road.

I just bought a new 08 chili red S. This is in fact my first post on this site.
Sad to say, I wave but no one has waved back yet.

Use to own a Jeep Wrangler and a Subaru STi... most everyone in the same car/jeep waved back.

Still waiting for a wave back.

EDIT- ADD info

Hey lawmann, I live in Columbus, GA and want some info on meets/drives!

I don't wave too much. Went to an event this weekend where other MINIs I passed to and from waved. That was a nice change.

Here in Santa Cruz Ca there is 2 very close colleges UCSU and Cabrillo. Also just a short drive away is San Jose Valley and San Francisco is only 70 miles away. I see a MINI at least every five minutes around town. Needless to say I wave a lot. But I have noticed that, as there is becoming a different MINI owner then that of the past the return waves are not equal.

I wave if I see the other Mini/MINI on time. Actually get aggitated if the other one doesn't wave.
