OK, so I'm on my way to the gym and get to the intersection with the offset road ... which means the light is red for the cross traffic which is about 20 yards to my left. There in the front of the pack of stopped traffic is a nice black MC. I'm pumped. I'm green so as I turn right I give the MC a full-on, arm-out-the-window friendly greeting. I feel good. I slow down for the next two lights to let the MC catch up, but as she goes by, no wave, no flashing, not even a glance in my direction. Guess its just a car to her. I'm bummed. I'm still waving, tho, (and trying to disprove my 10 year old's Magnetic Mini Theory.)

Wave back

My wife has a Mini and used to wave at everybody but lately has stopped. She said she just wasnt getting any response. She did wave at someone when we were in Vegas a few weeks ago and got a wave back.

Waving? How's this ...

I took the car out to "blow the gunk out of the engine" because it sat over the Holidays. We stopped at the Post Office. Wife went in while I just sat in the car.

A very old woman came out of the PO, knocked on the window, and said she wanted to play checkers on my roof!

I waved!

I try, but I'm getting slow in my old age- or is it the car is quick?

One reason why I decided on a white roof instead of the checkerboard pattern is that I didn't have room in the Mini to carry the large chess pieces.

I usually flash (old habit from my 911)

I have not driven the mini as much as the 911 yet, but it seems like I get more reponses from porsche people (even the water-cooled types)

My mother keeps threating to find large stick-on checkers to put on my roof sometime when she sees my MINI parked someplace. I threaten her life in return...

Plus I should try to stay on topic!
I wave and flash, and have only been snubbed a few times. A lot of the time the other driver isn't looking. Which makes me wonder how many times I've missed a chance to wave back.

New Mini owner here. I own a 2004 and have had it for 4,000 miles. I wave, but my windows are tinted so dark, I don't think anyone can see me! So what's proper protocol in that case?

flash works great--plus you keep both hands on the wheel!

I've been going about 3 for 4 on waves and wavebacks, but today was kinda weird - had the same situation twice and whiffed. I was in the 'go straight' lane and had a MINI sail by in the right turn lane and make the turn. I waved anyway, but I know they didn't see it.

I wave all the time. However I am running an open down pipe (turbo then a short 3" pipe) and I sound like a transfer truck. So I don't get a wave back. I get a WTF is that look.

I wave everytime I get the chance and here in Virginia I have been lucky to get a wave back about 80% of the time.

I saw a '63 mini woody-wagon in the rear view - we were both creeping through the suburbs. I pulled over to get a look and to let him pass, opened the door leaned out grinning and waved as he puttered on by - neither he nor his two passerngers offered a glance. No matter - it was still a great looking car.

I am going to try and have a video posted up of the car on the dyno next week. Maybe I can record a fly by soon.

Well, I'm a girl and I wave at all MINIS. Yes, sometimes people pretend they don't see you. It's kinda hard to pretend you don't see the other MINI right next to you stopped in traffic! But the other day someone really made me laugh...I pulled up on another MINI on the freeway and got his attention and waved to him. I had caught him off guard and it turned out he was eating a Egg Mcmuffin. He had a mouth full of the sandwich and didn't know what to do. He smiled and waved his Egg Mcmuffin at me as I drove by . Shame on him for eating in his MINI!

I always wave. Most times I try to do an extreme crazy-lady wave (aka full arm outside the window or sunroof). Sometimes I get a wave back sometimes I don't. I will not quit waving. 10 years from now I will still be waving even after the new has worn off to many. Corvettes have a secret wave, Minis should too

Not big on adjectives are you? I still don't know the secret and I OWN one!

If I were to pick one for the vette it'd probably be a half-second burnout.

For the MINI - turn the tires back and forth like it's waving Just don't overwhelm the power steering motor like I used to do
