Really ancient issue, but does anyone have a boot latch cable retrofit for pre-Sept. 02 MINIs?
Thanks.

Removing rear interior panels?

Does anybody have instructions for removing the rear interior panels? I am replacing my Harmon Kardon amplifier and sure could use some detailed instructions. If you have the instructions please PM me.

The posted DYI her in NAM is for the panels in the R56 and is not helpful.

I would like to add one more thing to the list. The remote receiver for the key fob seems like a common failure as well.

Family Service Gone Bad - Need Help - Break Calipers

Hi, I have a 2005 Mini Cooper S.

Title explains itself. I just brought my mini into a European Service Center since I had this noise that was driving me crazy, a grinding. I have had the pads and rotors replaced (by family) and then again... in very low miles. Whenever we had a sound, he said, oh, it's just brake dust. Squirt it off.

So, now, i get the results from the service center and I'm going to lose my mind.

1. NEEDS NEW REAR CALIPERS. $900
(What??? These are not supposed to go out)
2. New Rotors AGAIN in less than 2,000 miles $370
3. New Brake Pads - Again - Less than 2,000 miles and before we changed the rotors and pad within the last 5,000 miles. (Probably less)

3. Supercharger gasket $170
4. O2 Sensor - Upstream $270
5. Passenger Sensor Mat Pad (Airbag to turn on and off) - $1100

There are more items, silly things, and I don't have the paper in front of me. The bill would be $3,000. I'm already choking on getting the gasket and O2 Sensor replaced by them, because I need the dang check engine light off, I need to get it registered. They also have 5 hours of diagnostics I get charged for for the calipers and I cannot afford to have them fix them.

So.... above is my problem and I'm pretty stressed out.

I need to get some reasonable parts. I don't want to pay these prices. I'll also have to replace or get some help replacing. Maybe my son can do better than my brother.

Any tips on Calipers? Used ones for sale? Thoughts?

Any other feedback would be great. I'm new to dealing with this stuff. Usually, I'm just helping my son with his broken E30.

Get remanufactured calipers from rock auto, get pads and rotors from Bavauto or Ecs.

This might be sticking rear emergency brake cables. Wearing down the back brakes. Check the emergency brake cables.

Here is the link and the DIY / user guide video for the Gen 1 MINI OEM Bluetooth kits, shows you how to pair thr phone. I would also , restart and cycle the power on the phone itself.

Fantastic guide - thanks for the posting.

3 days into my 2004 Cooper S ownership and already relate to some of the items you list.

Cheers!

Possible Cracked Catalytic Converter (2006 R53)

Hello NAM Community,

I had a 17% pulley installed on Tues (I don't believe this has anything to do with the issue) and on my way to work the following day, I experienced a problem with my exhaust system: a loud exhaust noise coming from somewhere between the exhaust manifold and cat. I'm having a shop assess the problem today, but would like to get your collective input about quality and affordable alternatives to the OEM system if the down tube or cat is cracked. This is my daily driver, not a track car, and I'd like to keep my milage as efficient as possible.

Chances are you'll need a new cat. This is common for them to crack at the welds as they were unfortunately cheaply made. Can look at new exhaust options or catalytic converters here.

Luccia,

Thanks for the reply. I inspected the cat and found a crack in the pipe at the inferior aspect of the smaller of the two cats. I believe I'm going to have it welded closed for the time, until I decide on a final remedy.

My pleasure! Yes, unfortunately this is something we commonly see with these cats. Hope you get things sorted.

Here are some articles and application guide that should help, and a selection of fluids. Please let us know if we can help, and take advantage of April discounts!
