The oil, like it.
I have not seen anything that would make me say I love it but hopefully that means my engine is in great shape. I should do an oil analysis to see for sure.
I use 5w30 with 5,000 mile changes.

P.S. You can usually get it cheep from the corvetteguys.com. The last time I got is for $6.50 shipped from a sale.

Thats true only for the XPR.
The non racing oil respect the API and ACEA parameters (long life) like the BMW oil...
So you can change it every 5000/7000 miles with no problem

I run nothing but Royal Purple in my bikes and have loved it. My R6 currently has over 60k miles on it, and most of that was at 15,500 RPM. The only thing it's needed in that time was a cam chain tensioner. My R1 is run just as hard and is at 30k miles. That alone has me sold. I've only had it in the MINI for about 6k miles but loving it so far

I have it in my 09 Cooper now, but will likely go with a different oil next time. There are other 0W40s out there that meet A3 specs and cost two or three bucks less/qt. I paid $11.90/qt. compared with some other national brand that met A3 for about $8.50. Since I change oil every 5-7k, I can't justify the extra expense, even though I can afford it.

That is, unless someone out there with UOA can tell me something magic.

I use only mobil 1, I read an analysis on oils saying royal purple was not the best. However redline something or another was quite good, and so was mobil one.

I previously used Royal Purple but can no longer buy it in my area. I had no problems with the Royal Purple.
I now use Redline 5W40. However, it is a little more expensive. About $10 a quart from redline. You can get 1 gallon size from redline.

after switching from the suggested castrol to royal purple a month ago, the most notable difference was that it idled a little lower and the acceleration seemed smoother am i hallucinating?

In my bikes the trans shares oil with the engine and shifting was noticeably smoother, and temps are around 5-10 degrees cooler.

I am a RP fan for life, unless something better comes along. Plus, it matches my car! FABULOOOOUS!

This is why.

I have been using RP for several years in my cars (I buy it on line by the case). The most dramatic difference I saw was when I put it in my Z28, along with rp trans and rear end fluid. It improved my mileage 2 to 3 MPG, and dropped the running temps dramatically. I am not running it in my Mini, yet. I have a hard time justifying the cost when Mini is willing to pay for Castrol. Since I can't make myself wait for 15000 Miles for the free oil changes, and Mini charges me $80ish for doing it early, I will probably bring in my own RP next time. Unless Of couse, they tell me it will screw up he warranty or something.

It really is great stuff!

When I changed out for RP oil and gear lube in a boat many years ago was when I was sold on it, even the wife next time we got in it said wow what have you done, the boats so much smoother and quieter!!! Picked up a few mph top speed at the same rpm.. Actually was first turned onto it in the drag boat community.

RP felt very similar to Mobil 1 to me.

perhaps a bit smoother?

I am now a sucker for castrol 0-30 german syntec.

they are rarer than other oils and you might have to visit several auto part stores, but they are simply awesome.

they are heavier than other 0-30, more like 5-40 or 5-45 I heard in oil analysis, and since boosted cars love heavier oil, it's great.
not to mention it qualifies for the highest standards (oem standards for bmw, merc etc), and it's cool to have another made in germany part.

Great product!!

Never used Royal Purple but I have considered this one 0W30 XPR.
RP seems like a very good product, but I am just too loyal to my oil brand.
I may use it now since the shop next door don't carry Redline anymore.
