R50/53 17" non-runflat tire with load range : XL rated??
17" non-runflat tire with load range : XL rated??
Tirerack has few 205/45R17 tires that are less than $80 / piece.
Spec shows
Last time I've seen these XL range tires, was for the GMC heavy duty 2500 series pickup trucks... They have "rough and harsh" rides according to the website.
Is this something I can put on my '05 MCS as a replacement to the OEM 17" goodyear Runflat tires?

Ok. found out that XL ratings for these low-profile tires are for more robust sidewalls. It is used in slightly different context than my 2500 series HD pickup truck.
I'll order these then.

Make sure they are not made in China....a local tire shop tried to sell me a good deal...also xl rated....made in China. Most tests have shown these tires are terrible in the rain. For the money the General Uhp's are great, made by Contental tire too. Alex has. Good reputation, and he should give you some good advice.
I was looking at Tire Rack the other day and got the same pop up message about the high load rating. Are you getting the Yokohamas or Kumhos? Let me know how you like them. I need to order some very soon as well...
I just made the switch with Alex's help. I got the Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grids for $88 each. Once you figure in shipping, taxes, installation, disposal and tip to the mechanic, you're up to $140 a tire. But the switch is well worth it. The runflats felt like the wheels on an old wagon - stiff, uncomfortable and just waiting to cause problems. The "real" tires made the ride much much smoother, give better traction in the rain (and I assume in the upcoming snow) and a quieter interior. MINI really should only offer the runflats as an option and sell regular tires to the regular customers. The high performance dudes are gonna change everything anyway. Just give us normal folk the best ride possible.

They have Yokohama S Drive's listed (for the 17"s anyway)... on "closeout sale" for $76 each.
