R50/53 Breathing ROOM
f*#c%!! controlling the "fists of death", I think a swift kick in the *** is in order, but that may be because I'm in a fowl mood, but you have touched upon a pet peeve of mine as well. The only car in the god-damned parking lot and the fool in the grand marguis is going to park two feet from you and let all hell break loose without a passing glance. Lizzi, I would have a flat-head screw-driver at hand, just in case.
I appologize in advance for my fowl attitude tonight. Hopefully, I will be forgiven in the morning.
Best,
J.

I restored a 67 mustang took my wife to the mall one night came and hillbilly bob had his door resting against my car with his foot on his arm rest keeping it that way only my wife kept me out of jail that night. Now I just carry a four cell maglight so I can enlighen the uncaring. I won't take two parking spaces but I do get as centered as I can so I can be as safe as possible. Now can some one explain why because my MCS is so short they feel a need to cut the corner off my space so "I" have to watch when I back out so I don't hit them????
ACK! OMG. That is so not cool.
And the most annoying part is that based on that picture....there were OTHER PLACES for that moron to park.
I cannot stand when people do this.
If someone did this to me, I would completely freak out on them.
This is specifically why I will always park as far away as possible with as many empty spots on either side as I can find....hey I get more exercise that way...
Or if I am in a garage....end spot so at least one side is covered. In the parking garage at work I park in the corners. That worked real well until some tool in a purple pick-up parked on the very end (which technically would have been my space) and I couldn't get out. I had to have 2 guys come over and help me navigate out of the spot.

I hate door dings. I park as far away from anything as I possibly can and walk. Even so it seems some moron in a POS parks next to me even though there are spaces all around. I can't imagine that someone would do this intentionaly so I just chalk it up to them having their head up their butt and leave it at that.

What you need is a row of those little "float" thingys that the folks hang along their yachts when they're docked.
ROFLMAO....oh..i needed to read that. TOO Funny. How about a little FOG horn to go with that so you can scare the be-jeebies out of them
simple... safety park. s.a.f.e.t.y park it away from everyone, it won't hurt and the extra few steps will save your sanity.
i'm going to park mine in her own personal bubble

  But especially near my MINI! My hubby liked the boat-bumpers idea, but thinks we should have long sausage-like bumpers, instead! Sausages...BMW...get it? LOL!
I like the "bubble" idea. Where can we get one?
Cheers!

My Mini is going to help me get in shape, cause I will be parking her as far away from the stores as possible, when I go out shopping, it's ironic, but the car in the pic is a Crown Vic and I currently drive a '98 CV myself, with a slightly modded
engine, and some handling enhancements. That driver should be found and ***** slapped for parking so close to your baby.

I feel your pain! In my office garage, the spots are REALLY close. I often have to squeeze to get into my car at the end of the night. One night I actually had to climb in from the passenger side! Oh how it makes me nervous! I live in fear of a door ding!
AAARRRGGG!!!! What an a**hole!!! A pox on him (or her)!!!
People who park that close to you are doing it on purpose
It's too bad MINI doesn't have the plastic (?) door panels like Saturn.

Have you ever seen a Saturn get in an accident??? Styrofoam all over the road!!!!

****Whoa!!! I didn't know that. I've never seen a Saturn in an accident. However, something similar in a MINI would be nice. Then you wouldn't have to worry so much about jerks being careless or malicious.

I saw a Saturn rear end a Corolla....the whole front crumpled in and because it was packed full of styrofoam material there was what looked like styrofoam peanuts all over the road....the driver of the Corolla was picking them out of his exhaust. Please note: no damage done to the Corolla.
No offense to any Saturn owners on here....

Too close.
I just park away from everyone and walk a little more. At work I do that, and another person that has a brand new Buick parks by me. So it is the 'new' section.
When anyone teases us, we just say 'are you jealous?'

The MINI's side body panels are so flat and smooth even an itty-bitty ding would be unsightly. I know I'll pop a vessel when I find the first one. But I am trying very hard to postpone the inevitable. The whole door-ding-stone-chip-road-debris-avoidance has become an obsession of mine. When selecting a parking space, I start in the south 40. Having a 10-space cushion on either side isn't good enough, either. I need an end space, preferably no opening to my right, because if some dufus does park 6 inches from my door handle they might not be hauling a passenger. If the parking lot is full, then the space selection process becomes rather complicated. It's slide rule time. If I have a bad feeling (it's not all science, one must employ all 6 senses) about what spaces are available, I find a less popular place to do business, and move on.
I try never to park my MINI where I can't see it from inside wherever it is my MINI took me. If a Ford Excursion or a Hummer is eyeballing the next stall I need to be able to react quickly. Same goes for an overweight housewife with a 40 pound purse and a carload of rugrats on a sugar high (statistically proven to be the leading cause of "K-Mart Rash"
.
To avoid paint chips from from stones, gravel, and road debris, I follow a carefully planned route each day. I avoid opposing traffic that is not separated by a median at least 2 feet wide. If possible, I drive roads with at least two lanes in each direction, and drive in the right lane if my 2 foot rule is violated. I follow 2 seconds behind most cars, except semis, gravel trucks, and anything belonging to lanscapers or hauling earth-moving equipment. I either pass them or fall back far enough that if they were carrying explosives I would be safe from the blast.
I've had my MCS since July 23, and until yesterday my avoidance techniques have worked flawlessly over 2,200 miles of evil suburban Chicago roads. Yesterday a rock smacked into my windshield, leaving a tiny chip. I think it fell from the sky. Just one of those things you can't explain.
Sometimes I think that part of the joy of owning a new car is how intensely we try to keep it new. Soon enough the time will come when we realize it doesn't feel new anymore. When that time comes, discovering a new dent will likely **** us off, but it won't freak us out anymore. No more fantasies about inflicting painful unjury and mental anguish upon any inconsiderate bastard who would dare threaten the beautiful finish on our car. Enjoy the intensity and nurture your paranoia while it lasts. Its all part of the total experience.
