R50/53 Project custom LED tails - done!
Project custom LED tails - done!
bought an extra set of 05-06 tails, opened them up, and cut out the red lens / reflector around the brake light. Used some pepboys generic chrome trim around the cut parts. I glued the plastic lens cover back on with black silicone.
I spent enough to buy the aftermarket LED tails, but I think it's pretty cool that I now have unique tails with a reversal of the normal red / clear paradigm.
the bulbs are the spiderlites from autolumination.
It was hard to get a shot of these lit up during the day - while they no longer reflect the red during the day, they're even brighter / more noticeable than the stock tails.
interestingly enough, i don't get any bulb out warnings, and i didn't install any load equalizers.
at night they're bright!!
a few pics for your viewing enjoyment...
lights (not brake light) on. it's not quite this bright, but you get the idea.
