Problems putting gas in my car!

When I try to fill my '06 Cabrio the pump keeps shutting off if I use the thing on the pump handle (wide open fill, so I can wash my windows while gas is pumping) or if I squeeze it to high flow. It happens at different stations. I have been filling up cars with gas for many years and have never run into this problem before! What gives?

Try putting the nozzle all the way into the neck, then pulling it out 1 turn on the coil that wraps around the nozzle.
It maybe goes without saying, but you're not gassing up with the engine running, are you?
The reason I ask, once upon a time, I sold Mitsubishis, and the gas pump wouldn't stay operating if the engine was running. It had something to do with emission controls, or so I was told.

Basically if having the nozzle not as far in doesnt work...use a different pump...which usually means go to a different station. Ive got a mental list of places I cant get gas anymore lol

I always turn my engine off before fueling. I'll try that method. My SO says the opening is too narrow and pressure builds up and shuts the pump off - but wouldn't more MINI drivers be having problems? I never had a problem with my MCS.

So it happens to you, too? I have tried a few different stations and it still happens.

Cool. I was beginning to think something was wrong with my car. I have managed to fill it, but the shutting off gets to be annoying.

I got my 06 Cabrio in March. I had a 05 MCS that I bought brand new before that and it didn't have this problem.

I've had the same issue consistently. There must be a hard turn in the filler tube right about where the end of the nozzle is when you push it all the way in, that tricks it into thinking it's filled you up. Pulling it out just a hair solves it.

I've found that pumps that have excellent (FAST!) gas flow makes the pump shut off. I will usually have to squeeze it a little less, and at stations with crappy slow pumps, I never have any problems.
