Just got my 04 MCS. 1st question.

Just got my 04 MCS. Black/Black. 50k miles.

Giggity.

its mint, it even still had the plastic on the door sills.

one problem i've found with the car is that the interior drivers side door handle is not working properly. I have to pull it 10 or so times before the door opens. Works sometimes if i toss my shoulder into the door.

It seems like the fix is to use some lube on the mechanisim- according to this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...or-handle.html

thoughts?

oh, and pic of the car:

bah. stealership is last resort in ALL situations.

i rather spend 3 hours, bust up 4 knuckles and curse up a storm than bring it to a dealer.

Bowden cable - get a new one, or check and make sure that yours is still installed correctly. They sometimes stretch, or wiggle out of their correct location. Remove door panel, and check it out, its not to hard to replace if you need to. Go to www.realoem.com and type in your the last 7 digits of your vin # and you can see the part I'm talking about.

Good luck, and congrats.

It will take about 10 minutes to takes the door panel off. I've done the one on the passengers side. The cables just pop out sometimes. Are you an Aggie?

Aggie?

I'm not saying this particular job will take 3 hours, just saying I would rather ruin my day that goto the dealer to get my car fixed.

This should be cake to fix.

Hell, I installed a supercharger kit on an s2000 with a broken hand, and did it in half the quoted time. :P

Question #2: why are there 4 hash marks on the tach that don't light up? (two on either side of the 6000rpm mark)

I don't remember the specifics, but different models have different redlines, but they use the same tach pod. More or fewer hash marks light up in red to denote the redline of the vehicle.

aweeesome.

question 4: can i make the car beep when i lock it? i like the reassurance, and to scare off cats/squirrels.

question 5: whats the deal with the auto down feature on the keyfob? my dad got it to work, but i still haven't. is there a time delay or something?

question 6: what are options for push on shift *****. i have a **** from TWM that i love, but its a screw on. I refuse to use one that holds with allen screws, tried it, fail.

it really is in great condition, just as good as i kept my s2k, so i'm happy.

apparently it was owned by twin sisters. cool that they drove 6speed.

the dealer that i got it from doesn't normally take trades, everything is auction. he knew the girls and how they kept it so he took it.

or thats what he told me, and what i believed. lol.

btw, i bought the car from Franck Freon, +1 point to whoever knows who he is. (really, really nice guy)

#4: That would be something the dealer would have to do if it were an optional feature, that said I don't know of any MINI's that do that when they lock, so I suspect not.

#5. Push the button 3 times and hold. I get it to work about %90 of the time. I usually have to do it with all the doors locked for it to work.

#6. Whalen Shift Machine, the only company that I know of who makes ***** for the stock shift column. Otherwise you are looking at installing a short shifter.

#3. If by pegged you meant they have pieces that go into the sheet metal. Then yes, both of the MINI emblems have two pegs that go through the body, so if you remove them you will have two holes for each emblem that need covering.

thanks for the reply. (everyone)
i was hoping you guys would entertain the idea of me pegging you with questions. Im gettng the hang of search here, its not quite as bad as s2ki's. Thankfully, using google with the suffix "site:northamericanmotoring" works damn well.

anyway. in response to your response...
i could use a short shifter, coming from the s2000 this one feels huge.
any reccomendations for one that adds "notchiness" to the shifter?

I am a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2011! NOT UC davis. And yes we are the largest school in the nation by acreage.

I guess you guys dont have good dealerships in CA. Dealerships down here are really nice and laid back. A lot of the techs and salespeople go on motors with us in the loaner cars.

I have personally never taken my door panel off but I have heard some horror stories. So i guess it depends cause you guys say it is easy. I need to take mine off and install some LEDs in my door panels as mentioned in another thread.

Taking the door panel off is really easy. I can get it off in about 2 minutes, granted, I've done so more than 7 times. Have some spare panel clips handy.

For the short shifter. You are going to have to define notchiness. You had an S2K whose shifter I am guessing goes right to the transmission, ours use cables. Generally, the best way to get the most, precise I guess, feeling is to pick up any of the SSK on the market (B&M, Alta, or Craven Speed) and then be sure to add the metal bushings that come with one of the earlier versions of the B&M system. The shifter is held in place by four bolt with 4 rubber bushings (more or less) the B&M kit replaces those with aluminum.

Try searching "shifter" or "shift" or the like and see what comes up.
