Does anyone know if the LED Wiper Stalk in the factory alarm is available as a separate part (outside of the alarm kit?). I want the LED stalk portion to use with my aftermarket alarm.

If so, what is that part number? Thanks!

If no one answers this before I do, when I get home I will check the part number on the box that the stalk switch came in as part of the alarm kit. I know it has a part # on it.

I think it would be tough to make the LED blink with a 3rd party alarm system. Even if you tapped into the connector, it may be that the cars computer sends signals to a circuit inside the stalk housing which then lights the LED. Probably not as simple as 2 wires in the connector going directly to the LED. I'm just guessing here though. Here's a picture of the stalk and connector:

Typical me, I had the new wiper stalk switch disassembled before I installed it to see if it would be feasible to tap out the LED signal for a remote LED (the opposite of what OctaneGuy wants to do). There is no active circuitry in the switch, it's just a switch (several, actually) with no other electronics housed inside (like so many of the other subsystems the MINI has) other than the LED. So what he wants to do might just be doable unless the LED needs to be totally isolated electrically in the aftermarket alarm, and not common with a ground or other lead like it could be in the MINI switch.

Well I sit corrected!

Awesome!!! You guys are fantastic. Thanks so much. Classic MINI in Ohio has them for $78.80 + shipping. This just might be something I'll do, but $80 for an LED is pricey!!! Guess that's the price of owning a MINI.

The LED-equipped switch p/n is 61 31 489 485

I opened up my non-LED switch and found the insides to be identical all the way up to the very end of the stalk, where the LED is omitted and there is no red lens, everything else is the exact same. In fact, there is a tiny 'wiring harness' that goes from the stationary portion of the switch up to the end of the stalk with 4 wires, the same on either switch. It appears there is one common terminal, two for the switch (on and 'wash') and the LED. The LED is common to one of the other wires, and therefore a terminal in the entire switch assembly.

Greatbear-

Thanks! Are you saying that the LED in the LED stalk shares the existing wires? Or that the wires in the regular stalk also contain wires for the LED but are not utilized? I'm not sure what the "switch assembly" looks like as I've never seen the stalk removed.

I'm wondering if it's possible to just buy the led stalk and have the dealer activate it to flash even though there's no alarm present. That's what they did with my previous car, a 2000 BMW 323i- there was a red blinker on the rear view mirror which was supposed to work with the alarm, but my dealer programmed it to work without the alarm.
