I just wasn't diggin' the way it looked in my car, and it just got in the way of my passengers' legs (or mine if my fiancee is driving), so off it came tonight...glad to see it didn't leave any scratches. Does anyone want it? drop me an email or private message if you are interested. Thanks!

He speaks of the cup holder that they make (they are a department of MINI) which comes standard of all 2004 MINIs.

I'm indifferent at this point. It's better than the stock cupholders in that it doesnt hold your coke can so tight, which makes it hard to drink coke and drive, but at the same time it will either impede your travel to 5th gear or be jammed into your passengers leg or the seat when moved up to allow entrance to the back. But if you're the only one in the car it's good, that's why I'm indifferent right now, I dont drive it and wont be for a while, but dad drives it to work and is alone and likes to drink coffee, so I'd rather him not spill it trying to get it out of the holders or in his lap.

So far though it hasnt bothered any of us (3 people on a 700 mile road trip around florida). Back to the intended topic.

Buy/take it if you use the regular cupholders and dont think it will bother you, you'll probably get it cheaper/free than you would buying it new, I think it's like $50, but I wouldnt know, it was free. Maybe that's why the cost of a stock MCS went up $50, lol.

The Cup holder is nice! when not using it for cups, I can fit my wallet, phone & pager in side! You have to be very, very careful when folding the front passenger seat to gain access to the rear seats. IF you do not fold the cup holder in, you could damage your seats! The only real problem I have with the cup holder is that factory/dealer (?) mounted it about 1cm too low! I cannot fold the cup holder completely, thus I have to be carefull about folding the seat back as I described earlier. No worries, though, I'll fix it this weekend.

I think the cup holder is great!

I like the MINI FINI cup holder that came in my '04 MCS and have it also installed in our '02 Cooper CVT.

Yeah it is not the prettiest solution of the best looking one but I think it successfully addressed one of the MINI's weakest links in the interior...lack of storage space. The MINI FINI cuplink system can be used not only top place drinks but also your cell phone, wallet, coins, etc. Come sin very handy.

I have gotten both of my Cuplinks for free, so I can't complain. The Cuplink retails for $40 and that is very expensive, so enjoy it if you got it as a frebbie in your new MINI.

If you are tempted to remove it, do it very, very carefully because it can leave nasty scratches in the dashboard downtube in the center console.

I walked into my dealership this weekend, to ask my "MA" about the stumble fix. I also asked about the new cupholder I had heard about, not expecting much, since the parts dept. was closed. Lo and behold, she smiled, and pulled one out of a car on the showroom floor. She handed it to me, and sent me on my way. Saved $35-$40, and it is a great upgrade for the car. Good place for my morning coffee, and for my iPod when there's no coffee. It's not the prettiest, and can be in the way of a passenger, but it's also easy to pop off the bracket if you need more room. I recommend it...especially if you can get it for free!

When I bought the cupholder and opened up the box I could not believe that the part which attaches to the downtube was just plain plastic and didn't have any felt or anything to protect against scratching the very fragile paint on the tubes. Needless to say, stick some felt on it like I did before mounting it...

Good advice. I have already brought thid up to the attention of the people at MINI FINI. I personally know one of the company executives.

Before I put mine on, I put some duct tape on the bracket where it "hugs" the downtube..in order to protect from scratching. You're right...there are plastic seams and some burrs where it would hit the downtube...sure scratching if you're not careful. Still a very effective and clever cupholder (if not particularly attractive).
