New MINI owner: '05 Cooper S

Hey Guys,

My name is Justin and I just bought my 2005 MINI Cooper S. I live in Alberta, Canada. The car is an '05 MCS and it has 55,000KMs on it (35,000 Miles). It is a 6spd manual.

I think I did well with this model, it seems to have everything but navigation! The previous owner loved black, so it is all black. (This is great because black is my thing as well!) Here are the specs on it:

Jet Black on Panther Black Gravity Leather, Sport Package, Premium Package, All-Weather Visibility Package, Limited Slip Differntial, Anthracite Roofliner, Rain Sensing Wipers, Automatic Headlights, Fog Lights Front and Rear, Anthracite Interior Surface Trim, Harmon Kardon Sound System, Auto Climate Control (Digital). That's all I can remember for now. It also came with a second send of rims and tires for winter!

My previous car, which I still have, is a '00 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP which is modded. Rims, lowered, tint, engine work, etc. I love superchargers (the GTP is a 3.8L Supercharged V6). I love how the MCS is supercharged too.

Well, I want to get tint done first, then some minor exterior parts. I want to keep this thing mint and I need to give it a name!

Justin.

Welcome to NAM!
Very nice looking car.
I've found that a car's name is one of those things that will just come to you when you least expect it.
Sort of like a girlfriend.
I'm still waiting.....

My Jet Black on Jet Black brother! Welcome to the boards.

Great pic - I like how you made the background black and white. Your car is very nicely optioned. Auto or stick?

Looks great and congrats!

Welcome Justin

Great looking and driving ride, I'm sure! I think we have your car's naturally asperated sibling (also a 2005). It was a good year! Click the "gallery" link to see what I mean.

Thanks for all the replies! I love it so far. It's a 6spd manual, I forgot to add that to the main post haha. I edited it now.

Welcome, Justin.

Nice ride. You'll definitely have to frequent NAM and tell us of your motoring adventures. There is also a MINI Club in Calgary if you haven't hooked up with them yet. They can provide you with local information on getting the mod bug going

But once you black, you never go back.... haha. This can apply to car colours right!

And yes, the xenon lights, but I thought they were standard on the MCS? Or were they still an option?

Yeah, I've checked out the site. They have some good organized meets, unfortunately all on the weekend so I can hardly make them :(

Xenon lights weren't standard on any of the models, but they were part of the "Sport Package" on the 'S', so that's how a lot of people got them. You could order them as an a la carte option as well if you didn't want the other items in the Sport package.

Oh ok, makes sense. I think the only thing I was missing was navigation and park distance control.

It's gorgeous, and certainly loaded - the only big options I could think of that you didn't mention were the Cold Weather package, the Convenience Package and the Chrono kit.

It has the cold weather package, it has everything from the convenience package apart from the garage door opener (but i have the Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, Rain Sensor and Auto Headlights) and what was the chrono kit?

Oh and in Canada they named the packages a bit different too I think or they had different names for similar things?

The Chrono Pack moved the speedometer from the center of the dash to the steering column, and replaced it with gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure, along with a larger fuel gauge. Here's a picture:

Hmm, I'm not sure I Like the Chrono package.

But I just checked my sheet on the car and it has [494] Heated Front Seats but no mention on the Cold Weather - but it has All Weather Visibility Package and 359 Visibility Package.

I can't find menton of those two packages on any website (but theyre US websites) and I couldnt find mention about the electrically heated FRONT windshield.... is there a way I can find out if the mirrors are heated?

I just got the Chrono Pack because it solved two problems for me - it moved the speedometer to the steering column where I'm used to it being, and it addresses the MINI's almost complete lack of gauges.

I don't know anything about the heated windshield, because the U.S. cars don't have that as an available option. The Cold Weather Package had heated seats, heated washer jets and heated mirrors.

I definitely like the added guages and how they moved the speedometer to the steering wheel - but I just use the digital one on the steering wheel as it is. I just am not sure if I like the look of the middle ones thats all but I would have like the other pod on the steering column.

So US cars couldn't get the electrically heated front winshield? It would be hard to understand if my car has the electrically heated front windshield but not the mirrors!

Do you have the cold weather package? Do your mirrors have any sort of heated logo on them?
