hi guys.
i've got word back from my insurance company that my car isn't repairable.
they are going to total it, could you offer me any advice as how to get the most
amount of money from them?
i'm very depressed with this whole situation, i won't be able to get another mini for a long while as i will have no cash for a down payment and really can't afford any extra expenses for now....who knows how long it will be before i see any settlement money for my pain and suffering, although i do have a very good lawyer on my side.
any advice guys?
thanks in advance.

If you have a good insurance company (AAA, Farmers, ect...) your should see settlement money fairly quickly. Depending on your poicly some even get a rental car till everything goes thru. I know I get 30 days of rental car if my car is in the shop or gets totaled from AAA.

With Resale values in many areas still above sticker you should be able to get almost what you paid back for it. A few people even got more.

Call your local MINI Dealerships and try to find a MINI for sale with the same options and milage as yours. Also look on Autobytel.com and ebaymotors.com
then give those to your agent as exampes of the going rate for what your car was worth.

You should be able to either get one off the lot from MINI of the Main line or MINI of the Hamptons or order a new one with no markup right away from my favorite dealership, Roadshow MINI.

They will get your motoring in no time.

Nfo, without digging too deep into your personal financial details, it seems that lack of cash to make a down payment and "extra expenses" shouldn't figure into the equation here. Your insurance company will pay you an amount that is most (if not more...but I personally think that's pretty unlikely) of what you paid for your now-wrecked MINI at delivery. Your settlement will be minus deductable and minus whatever depreciation they apply. The latter (depreciation) is what your negotiation with them will be all about. Obviously they'll try to depreciate more than you feel is fair. You, and they, will compromise and in the end you'll get "most" of what you paid.

Then just take that and buy a new car. If I were you, once I knew that a check from the insurance company was assured and close to happening, I'd put the deposit on a new MINI order on a credit card (pay it off once your check arrives) and be good to go. That takes care of the downpayment. If the difference between your new car and the settlement check is big, then you have a cash problem at delivery...and here, I can't know just what sized problem you might have. But, again, the difference should be relatively small.

nfo,

I thought someone else's insurance would be paying? I thought someone rear-ended you?

I had a wreck back on fathers day 3 years ago. I broke my nose in two places and I was out of work for a week. The insurance company of the other driver gave me full book retail value plus sales tax for the truck. I must admint I was happy, because the truck wasn't worth near what they paid for it, but I think they did it just to keep me from filing a lawsuit. They also gave me $5,000 for pain and suffering.

nfo; you can read through the later pages of Ryan crashes Mr.Motor

I ended up getting $500 over sticker because my MCS was only 3 months old, plus they chipped me a few bucks for my aftermarket stuff that I couldn't easily remove.

Best of luck!
