First Aid Kit

I was reading the Onwers Manual and there is a small paragraph with illustrations about
the location of the First Aid Kit. Its supposed to be located in the boot left hand side behind a removable panel.
I just checked and there's definately a space there with wires but not FAK. What's up with that,
and where's is this FAK? Is there supposed to be one, or is this an oversight in the editing of the
Owners Manual. Did anyone get this kit with their car?

I believe the FAK is an option. Check the heading at the top. Does it have an asterik?

The first aid kit, like the orange safety triangle, is required in Europe and certain other countries (Mexico?). Not required in the US, and hence we don't have them. You can probably order it from a dealer in England if you want it (or see eBay).

The owners manual has a number of typos where something that should be labeled as "optional equipment" or "country-specific" is not labeled as such.

You know, I think you're right about that. I have to look back at it and see.

Thanks.

Remember the last scene in the warehouse from Raiders of the Lost Ark? I'll bet that's where all our FAKs are waiting.

The FAK has a number 51 43 7 066 648 (and a lable for the side panel No.51 43 7 062 935) ... I've been told these are not available Anywhere; If any one is going to Europe and finds them, pick up an extra for me (i'll pay ya back).

The Safety Triangle, btw, has a No. 71 60 0 141 157 ... and no one seems to know where that is either ! (the mounting brackets are 51 46 7 059 722 & 723).

Any one already overthere wanna send a box this way?

8ball,
I ordered mine from Minisport. Since they are shipping outside the country, you don't have to pay the VAT and so I figured that would be close to covering shipping (17.5%). NOT! The triangle is quite heavy so it's not cheap to ship but they had everything you are looking for. I didn't see the mounting 'bolts' in your list. Here is the part number 64 11 0 141 012. I would certainally hate to finally get the parts from across the pond only to find I had to scrounge around trying to find four screws to fit .

I didn't know about the label for the FAK. If you order the parts from them, would you mind ordering two labels and I can paypal you some $ for it and you can drop it in the mail? I can't justify an order just for that. Do you have a pic?

Back then, I also ordered the toggles because I couldn't stand the missing one. Now it sounds like those will be available here before too long.

Link to triangle and FAK

First Aid kits are a good idea, even if your Mini didn't come with one. I ALWAYS outfit my cars with a small nylon bag of essential items. Need not be heavy, checkout the small FAK's at your local backpacking outfitter. (While you're at it, they make great gifts too!)

God speed.

I found one, I found one . Me and a coworker were going through some stuff that our detail department had taken out of a trade in sometime ago. I guess since there so rare, that they didn't recognize it actually went with the car. Has the MINI logo on it and everything...I'll have to post some pictures. I never saw one before now.

Not rare, European. It is an option that only European cars have as it the law for us to carry one (warning triangle as well) here. You can order it from MINI. Odd for you to dig up a 5 year old thread...

That's what archives are for! This one is different, it is not the one that is pictured linked in any of these threads. It is in a nylon bag with a zipper that is in the shape of an "L". I will take a picture tonight and post it....

Still very odd and like I said, not all that rare. I have one in my MINI. (US Spec bought in Germany).

Why is it odd? Its completely pertinent to the topic posted. Would you rather a new thread and then have people complaining about not using the search option?

jeez, you cant please everyone i guess.

My gf is from Switzerland and I had her pick up a first aid kit from a MINI dealer in Zurich. The FAK I received is also in the shape of an "L". I have the Harmon Kardon audio, so I figured the kit would go in the left panel. One problem though - I can't figure out, for the life of me, how to put the "L" shaped FAK in the cubby hole!

Chad - were you able to figure out how this fits in our cars?

Because some guy that joined a year ago dug up a five year old thread just to say that he found one? Yes, that is odd... Clearly it wasn't that exciting back then and it isn't now either.

I could have posted a year ago to tell you that it is in my boot. Oops, make that two and a half...

My point is that it is an item you can order. What is the big deal?

Lastly, yes he could have started another thread and it would have been as exciting as this one.

Sarcasm aside, I have harmon kardon and it is on the left side of the boot that the kit goes. To be honest, I have not pulled it all the way but have looked at it as they do expire and will require replacement by German law. So, maybe tomorrow I'll pull it out to look. That being said, I do think mine is a plain rectangular shape, no "l".

Just looked at mine and it looks like this...

Not seen the "L" shaped one. There might be a differnece in what is required in the kit from country to country as well. This might account for the extra shape.

So finding a rarely seen mini part or questioning an unfamiliar part isnt worthy of a revamp of a thread due to your entertainment value?

Thats whats odd.

AKDIndiMini,

I put mine with the "L" upside down and where your H/K amp would go since I don't have one. So it could go in the other side as well. It has a velcro stick-on on this side of the > L that sticks to the back of the removable panel in the back.

To go further, none of the ones listed in that link are in a nylon bag, there plastic. Second, as Soliloquiet pointed out, it's in the "L" shape unlike yours. And thirdly, We are not overseas where they are required, so finding them in the US is unusual.

On a more personal note, I find it odd that you would come in this boring thread that you clearly don't find interesting at all and be negative. If you don't like it, don't read it and let it fall into the abyss. And for what it's worth, I like it, thinks it's cool and was excited about it, but thanks for raining on my parade. I'm glad I have an umbrella.

No, going out of your way to dig up a five year old one to make a post in it is... Can you guys not read? You all act like I kicked the guy, all I said was it was odd. It was an observation, that was all. Typically people just start new threads. Sheesh, let it go....

Dude, I wasn't raining on your parade merely pointing out the obvious. THEY CAN BE ORDERED! As for the rest, all I said was that it was odd, nothing more (I found it odd that you didn't start a new thread, nothing more). Obviously you guys have some serious sensitivity issues. I came to the thread because I thought I would share my opinions on the matter but it is clear that my American brethren can't take a little comment without whining and taking it like I kicked your dog. Man you guys are getting sensitive over there.

So, I am sorry to you Chad and to the rest of you that took offense to my post. All I meant is that it was odd that a new thread had not been started rather than finding this one. On that note, kudos to you for using the search function and reviving it. How about posting a picture and part number and I will see if I can find out why they are differnet shapes.

Ok, so it is squashed then.... Sometimes the problem with the internet, even with the emoticons, is that you can't tell someones demeanor from the strokes of a keyboard, and what you type can be misinterpreted.

I will post the pictures as soon as I get my DC back from the niece, which is tonight I hope.

Poor choice of wording on my part. Please do. I have heard about the L shaped one but have not seen them. As I posted earlier, certain countries have different requirements for what is in them so that could be why. In Germany we have those and a warning triangle that mounts up under the boot shelf.
