Just purchased 2004 MCS

Hey everyone, I just got a 2004 MCS from someone who actually used to be a user on the forums here. He took great care of it and added a bunch of aftermarket parts to it.

supercharger pulley
m7 front grills
cold air intake
magnaflow exhaust
whalen shift ****
m7 oil drip catcher
m7 air plate diverter
m7 180 thermostat

I wanted to know whats the best way to hook up an ipod to my car? I've been reading around and I see some people ordered some AUX plug from somewhere, is that pretty easy? Also, any other recommendations on any other upgrades?

Thanks

Congrats, sounds like the previous owner had some nice mods!

The Aux plug is made by MINI and is probably the simplest and most economical way to get audio from your iPod into the stock stereo. It is only for audio and does not charge the iPod. I had just the Aux plug on my 2003 and it worked flawlessly. On my 2006 I have the Aux plug as well as charger hidden behind the dash and a single cable that charges and gets audio for my mounted iPhone, but this is a bit more elaborate. Do know that installation of the Aux port, requires pulling the headunit out and some dash pieces although it is very straight forward. You can find the Aux plug at any of the standard MINI boutiques:

OutMotoring
MiniCarParts
MINIMania
MorristownMINI

MorristownMINI is the cheapest currently ($29) as of 12/3/08

Thanks for the links. Also, can anyone recommend a good air compressor and some slime/goo/fix a flat to use? I don't have run-flats on.

The installation of the aux input port can be done without removing the head unit. It's really tight, and as long as you don't have really big hands, it can be done with a little patience! The trim piece under the steering wheel needs to be removed and you can reach behind the head unit and plug in the aux harness. I just didn't like puting the jack where MINI recommends it - in the glove box! So I installed mine in the little cover below and behind the switch panel in the center console.

lovethecorners, can you give more details on your iPod install that charges? How did you combine into a single cable? I'd love to do this too!

Might want to call Classic Mini and mention NAM for a discount.

Here's my setup:

I was debating mounting my iPod(s)/iPhone but once I did so I was very happy, especially when the iPhone is mounted. The one-cable look is very clean and easy to accomplish. Here's my setup:
The key to getting power behind the dash is the power adapter loom. It is very easy to install when doing the Aux adapter and has two ends: one just plugs into the back of the headunit and the other is a cigarette lighter, perfect for plugging in the Griffin AutoPilot. The Griffin AutoPilot has one cable that goes to the iPod/iPhone's dock connector. This single cable charges the device as well providing line-out quality audio. At the base of the AutoPilot is an aux port where you connect the aux cable to the MINI Aux adapter. There's enough space behind/below the headunit to stuff all the cables and you have a very clean setup with the single cable from the AutoPilot hidden behind the dash to charge and provide audio.

Yes, the Aux port will work with the H/K system. The only "problem scenario" is if you have navigation as the cable for voice commands from the satnav and the aux jack are supposed to go into the same outlet on the back of the headunit, although this can be rectified:

You can pick up a compressor and can of fix-a-flat at practically any auto-store (PepBoys, AutoZone, etc) or at Wall-Mart, Target, Kmart, etc for cheap. They're all the same. Or if you're a snob like me, you can take out your credit card and get the BMW/MINI branded Mobility Kit. It looks nice siting in the boot.
