R50/53 05 MCS turns 100,000 miles this morning!
05 MCS turns 100,000 miles this morning!
Our 2005 Mini Cooper S, that we picked up from Moritz Mini in Arlington, TX on June 10th, 2005 turned 100,000 miles this morning.
From and including: Friday, June 10, 2005
To and including: Wednesday, November 26, 2008
It is 1266 days from the start date to the end date, end date included
Or 3 years, 5 months, 17 days including the end date
Soooo, how do you put 100k+ miles on your Mini in not quite 3 1/2 years?
Well, you average 79 miles per day (according to the geek calculations above) and you find a great group of people to enjoy them with.
How we we got here!
If your still on dial-up, or a slow internet connection, my apologies.

Closest thing to a major repair would be the clutch slave cylinder, twice under warranty. Power steering cooling fan under warranty, sunroof track was replaced under warranty.
Big out of pocket hit was at 65k miles, about $1,100 for a crank pulley where the rubber/plastic was starting to separate but hadn't completely failed. I didn't know what it was at the time, since it would still run, but started throwing codes, and once it was at the dealer I went ahead and had them fix it. Too many varying opinions on the after market lightened crank pulleys, and while I don't mind doing some of my own wrenching, that was beyond my means. They replaced the crank pulley and the housing/plate, since it was pretty well scarred from the crank pulley rubbing against it. I picked up an M7 crank pulley from someone here on NAM for a nice price, so its a backup in a worse case scenario if the OEM fails a second time.
So at 100k, started to research getting a replacement supercharger rebuilt and on the shelf in the case mine starts to leak oil or it starts making bearing noise. The other option would be getting a "Jan/RMW" loan... hehe.

Congrats !! I am almost there with my 06. Sometimes I feel horrible for putting that many miles on the car but on the other hand I had a blast driving it with every single mile.
Looks like you guys do alot of driving events in AZ. Here in Socal there aren't many events and get togethers as I wish there was. Anyway, Happy Motoring.

Wow! That's great!
Big congrats!
How many are there that have reached 100k?
We had the smae issue with the crank pulley at 50,700 miles... was covered under warranty.
Hey CHKMINI- are you from Switzerland by chance?

Congrats on the 100K. I enjoyed looking through your pics on the link. You have definitely been active with your MINI.

Congrats to you & all of the high mileage motorers.

I'm going to toast you all with a cup of Swiss Miss.
Last night when I posted, I was thinking that CHK was the country code for Switzerland... but my husband just informed me that "CH" is Switzerland and "CHK" are his initials.
(His family is from Switzerland.) Sorry... I'm blaming it on my sleepy meds.STAY WARM UP THERE!
You are doing what your car was meant for... DRIVING!
Congratulations! I have over 109K on my '05 S. Delivered 12/11/04, hit 100K on April 6 this year. Only repairs have been replacement of the crap oil-filled engine mount. Twice.
I had a job that was 54 miles away until last May. Now I work at home and Sparky gets a well deserved rest. He gets his workouts on track days now rather than commuting. He got a whole new performance suspension in September courtesy of Detroit tuned. It's like a new car!

Unfortunately CoopahS' story doesn't have a happy ending and ends at 109k miles.
On May 4, 2009, I was on my way home from work and a lady in a Chevy Tahoe ran a red light and collided with our MCS. I never saw her coming, she evidently just wasn't paying attention.

Needless to say, my body took the brunt of the impact, but all of the safety features worked as they are designed too, and after emergency personnel arrived i was able to exit the vehicle under mostly my own power.
Run down of the injuries: fractured scapphoid in the left wrist, radius bone in the right wrist (from being on the steering wheel at impact), fractured sternum (giant yellow highlighter mark across my chest from the seatbelt) and a couple broken bones in my right foot, either from the gas pedal or hitting the console. Lots and lots of bruising... areas I didn't know you could bruise were black and blue from the seatbelt and around my waist area.
I'm recovering well from all of the injuries thankfully, the sternum being by far the most unpleasant thing I've experienced. But I'll take that from the seatbelt, versus the other possibility of serious head injury without it and the airbag doings its job. Fractures are 100% healed and I'm in Physical Therapy now getting all of the range of motion and strength back. Sternum is thankfully pain free now, but am being told 4-6 months for all the soft tissue to heal, so not pushing anything in that area for awhile.
On the bright side, we ordered a 2009 R56 on Memorial Day weekend. I got the cast off my right wrist on the morning of June 30th, and the new Mini arrived the day before at the dealer, so we were able to take delivery that same night as the cast removal appointment.

2009 Horizon Blue Mini Cooper S... the new adventure has already begun with a trip to Malibu over 4th of July and Minis in the Mountains last weekend.
I just want to thank all of our friends and family in the Mini community. You guys have been awesome. I can't say enough about the support from my own club here in Arizona, The Dynamic Mini Collective. I had friends offering rides or whatever we needed and it was great to see smiling friends faces at the hospital. That can be a lonely place, thankfully i was only in 4 days.
And last but not least, your Mini comes with awesome safety features. Let them protect you and PLEASE wear your seatbelt ALWAYS.

Wow...
Good to see the Mini cabin structure in tact... which helped protect you. And the fact you're buying another Mini makes me feel good as I've always feel a bit uneasy driving such a small car in a sea of SUVs and trucks.
Horizon Blue... one of fav colors.
I notice the passenger side airbag didn't deploy. Is there a sensor in the seat which activates the airbag only when a passenger is present?
Get well and keep motoring!!!

Sorry to hear about your old MINI, but glad to see that it held up well in the accident and that you did not have any major injuries. My dad was in a head-on collision about 2 years ago with his 1-month old R56, and I know how well engineered these cars are. For a small car, it is extremely strong and can take a strong hit while keeping the passenger compartment intact.
Glad to see you got another MINI, too. That Horizon Blue looks great, and I like the black wheels!

That's amazing! Glad you're still here to talk about it!
That's correct. The indicator whether or not the airbag is active is located next to the sunroof switch and reading lamps.
