I have been quoted 10 months for a Cooper and 14 months for a Cooper S in the California Bay Area. This is for a new order with the packages and colors I want. The dealer, East Bay Mini, doesn't charge MSRP but the lead times are long. All the Mini's coming in are spoken for.

What are the lead times for a new Mini that others are seeing?

I bought mine off the showroom floor for MSRP at Scottsdale MINI in Phoenix on Labor day weekend. I had never spoke with them before that time. I picked my car up on Saturday the 7th and they seemed to still have some setting around. Mine is an Electric Blue S model and they also had the Coopers on hand. I was also quoted long lead times when I was checking around, but was very suprised to find them in stock at MSRP.

Really what I want to know is if it makes sense to buy out of the area if lead times are shorter elsewhere.

I ordered my MINI from Mini of Concord and the wait time was 2 months for an S. There was also a $2500 markup, but I feel it was worth it. You might want to check them out. they also have fairly high reviews in the Dealer Rating System on this site. Hope this helps.

Yes, lead times may indeed be shorter elsewhere.

At least for 2002 model cars, in early July when I ordered mine, wait times varied from dealer to dealer. I'd suspect that is still the case and it has to do with the size of the allocations (and local demand) made to each dealer. There's no way that you'll be able to get better info without calling dealer to dealer. Again, this has little directly to do with the rate at which BMW produces the cars, but much more to do with the individual dealer and local demand.

But if you're really eager to get a car at the price you want (at least MSRP of course) with the least possible wait, calling about is the way to do it.

I know Ferman Mini in Florida just got FORTY Minis delivered. They were supposed to only get ten a week. Call. Maybe they have the one you want. They are marking up $2500 but give you a voucher for $2500 in accessories.

Thanks, but Florida is a little out of my normal range. This tells me that the wait times will probably get more reasonable soon. I don't know whether this is because of higher production, more US allocation, or falling demand. I do know from being in the rental business in California that whevever you have long waits for product and start a waiting list people sign up in droves, but soon lose interest if they are not called back pretty soon. My dealer told me they are getting about a 50% drop out rate on back ordered Minis. :smile:

I got my accessories at the same price as in the MINI accessory guide...
Are you sure you're talking about the same place? I found everyone helpful and honest... yeah, I paid more than"sticker" but I GOT more than sticker! I'm just grateful to have my MINI and some great people to work with (and visit with!), too.

 

Our MINI was ordered in late June, and the wait time was about 7 weeks. Took delivery last Saturday 9/7.

 

WELL I LIVE IN CANADA..AND THE PROVINCE I LIVE IN (ALBERTA)DOES NOT HAVE A DEALER IN IT..SO I HAVE TALKED TO A DEALER IN B.C AND WILL BEING GOING THERE IN A COUPLE WEEKS TO TEST DRIVE ONE.HE SAID TO ORDER ONE WOULD BE 3 MONTHS AT THE MOMENT FOR WHAT EVER I WANTED FROM FACTORY...SO THESE OTHER LEAD TIMES SEEM A BIT RIDICULOUS TO ME. I THINK THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE YOU BUY WHAT IS ON THE LOTS AT THE TIME.BELEIVE ME I HAVE BOUGHT MORE THAN 15 NEW VEHICLES AND ALOT DEALERS ARE LIKE THAT.

WELL I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IN ONE FOR A TEST DRIVE.
