Last Deal Question - I promise!

Last one, I promise.

I tried to move the seller on pricing a bit but he's very firm on it. Car is in excellent condition. Test drove a non-JCW 06 yesterday and wow, what a huge difference between the two!

06 JCW
16k miles
Premium package
Sport package
Conv package
Cold weather package
Chrono package
HK Sound
Anthracite headliner
17" Web spoke wheels

$28,500

Good deal? Bad deal? OK deal?

I'm sorry

but I can't bring myself to say that's a good deal when a base S - 2009 is 23,100 {what I just punched up on MINIUSA}

OK, yours has 'stuff' but also 3 years depreciation.

or maybe you think GEN1 has that much over GEN2 (maybe I do too....but THAT's a different story)

My 2 cents (and not worth that)

order new and enjoy the full warranty/pre-pay service
&
use the $ left for carefully selected options/mods....

that 06 may have more Omph ... but an 06 vs an 09 .... if nothing else, think of resale in a couple of years.

I agree with most of this. I ordered my JCW recently for $33k even. No convenience package, but it had everything else that's listed above and a bit more.

Yeah, it's something for me to think about. I appreciate your honesty. I built a 2009 on MINIUSA with the bare bone options I would really want with the $2,500 mark up, it comes out to be about the same price if not a little higher.

Does that include the mark up? There's a $2,500 mark up on MCS' and $3,500 mark up on JCW's in my area.

MARK UP

sorry, I lived in Cal for a time (RECENTLY)

don't pay markup. other dealers will ship to you from the east coast for less than that kind of markup...

cross country shipping (no deal) is about $1000... and a dealer has to honor service/warranty no matter where you bought it.

my last comment on this case .... you gots some soul searching to do....

I'll look into some East Coast dealers. The dealers here won't move on the mark up. The only have a few cars sitting on the lot that will probably sell quick. Pay up or leave. That's their motto.

What's the name of the dealership? I'll see if they're willing to ship a car to me.

I've seen the ad for that car and it looks awesome. I love those seats! I think the price is out of line though. What I told my buddy who is sort of in the market for a JCW and and to whom I sent the ad link is that I can't see it being worth $9k more than the 05 MCS I bought a few weeks ago w/26k miles. You gotta really want the JCW stuff to pay that price.

That price seems to be on the high side. Unless you have to have it right now and you can't pull your heart away from it, pass on it and find another one. There are plenty of good deals that will come your way if you're patient enough.

A quick search on craigslist Los Angeles yielded the following:

'07, 30K mi, $22K http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/779290901.html
'05, 19K mi, $21K http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/car/780333039.html
'05, 30K mi, conv, $17.9K http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/car/779756330.html
'04, 69K mi, $18.2K http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/car/780267009.html
'02, mi not listed, $12.9 http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/car/778271571.html

Maybe it is high, but two weeks ago it was announced that the MINI Cooper has the lowest depreciation rate of ANY vehicle on the market today......

Maybe that has something to do with the high resale value ?

I think you have to weigh other aspects in your purchase. Unlike the original owner, you woun't:

1) Have to "work the factory BUGS out" of the car.
2) Have to pay higher sales tax
3) Have to pay higher excise tax ( In MA that's a killer )
4) Have to Pay higher insurance premiums
5) Have more Wiggle room to negotiate a good deal

Are the body styles any different ? Are the NEW JCW coming through with the same equipment at that price because as model years progress, sometimes manufacturers delete items as standard and make them optional to keep base stickers prices down.......

Good luck!

Yup, I was happy with the 2003 MCS I just bought, sales tax was low, and my excise tax bill just came in for $28!

Insurance is high though, my last vehicle 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee loaded was the same. So this car isnt cheap in the insurance part.

There must be a lot of R56 owners answering your question, because the price you have listed looks pretty good from where I sit.
Have you thought about asking this question in the newly formed Gen 1 JCW forum?
There at least you'll get the opinion of other JCW Gen 1 owners.

well, i found a '06 JCW Convertible with 21K miles on it for 26K if that tells you something.. price is a bit high.. don't be afraid to look around and remember resale is always high when YOU are the one buying... Once YOU go to sell, all of the sudden, resale isn't so high anymore... Hmmmmmm.

Resale to me is icing on the cake, never to be thought of in the positive when you buy since 99.9% of the time it will be lousy or not what you expected. Think low resale and be pleasantly surprised. Rather than the other way around.

Now if you don't like the new body style, and I absolutely hate what they did to the interior, then its a no brainer, go with what you like/love like I did.

I think the original ones will hold their resale value better than the new ones.

Just my .02

Makes me wonder if it's priced high because they CAN price it that high or is that really blue book value on the car.

I do like the new body style. Test drove both 06 and 07. I like the 07 engine more. The power kicks in at a lower RPM. The 06 felt a little sluggish off the line.

I found another 06 JCW with 40k miles that's going for $33.5k!!!

33.5k? that has to be a typo or a joke, or the guy took out to big of a car loan

where're you located? there're a few dealers in soCal that don't do markups. south bay mini is one of 'em, or at least they should be

if you like the new one, just go ahead and order one. you'll have to wait, especially longer now, but it's worth it. if you want an r53 jcw, look around more and don't get ripped off. me, i'm partial to r53's but 33.5k for a used one is a total rip off (unless if it's a gp)

Buy new. That being said, you should never pay mark up.

Nope. I called him and asked if that was a typo and should be $23.5k?

I thought about ordering a new one but I don't know if I can wait until October delivery.

I've seen GPs for less than that with fewer miles. That seller is smokin' crack!

No, he's not smoking crack, he's probably pricing it at what the banks will lend on the vehicle. Look at Carmax, they price vehicles way higher than reality, but they are hoping someone comes in that has no money down and is at the mercy of the banks. They get the amount they want and bump the interest rate 2--2.5% above what the banks say the buyer is approved for and make another 15-2500 dollars on top of the deal.

Very typical dealer workings.. + with "only 40K miles" on it, its still under the factory warranty and uses that as a selling point.

And of course there is always the problem with availability. Not that many are for sale, not all for sale are geographically desirable and not all that are for sale and geographically feasible are in good enough condition.

I bought a new one, paid 2K over sticker because there simply aren't any new ones left to be had around here. Plus without starting another oil change war, I do not trust anyone that pays 30K for a car and then skimps out on oil changes by "trusting" the BMW computer service interval when it has been flat out proven its NOT to be trusted ( see the post where the oil was analyzed at about 9K miles, and was shown to be shot when the computer said it had another 9K miles to go) Just making a point, please do not start a oil war again. Thanks!

pete

Where are you? Where is the car?

I looked at a car very similar to this one several months ago when I was shopping for mine and the seller wouldn't budge. Luckily I was looking at 2 and the other seller came down - and it was the car I wanted more anyway so it worked out. Personally, I much prefer the 06 to the 09 but I wouldn't pay that then, and I wouldn't pay it now. Thats easy for me to say as I already have one but I might have to reconsider given that the market is substantially tighter now than is was in May.

I'm in CA.

Mind me asking how much you paid? I'm sure if the market wasn't the way it is, this car would be a few grand lower. Maybe in the $26k range?
