Rotors and sport package?

I have question about rotors. I’ve been checking the internet at NAPA, Autozone, and Advanced. I’m getting results for rotors for my 2006 cooper s that are saying “w/o sport package”. It’s been a while since I got my car and I know I bought the sport package. But what is it about the sport package that will cause these rotors not to work? Is it the 17” wheels?

I believe they mean the JCW brakes, not the SS+ package. And to save you some $$$, go here instead:
http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...eIndexID=53106
Or anywhere else for that matter. TSW and AutoXCooper carry good quality brakes.
http://www.autoxcooper.com/tsw_suspension.html (scroll down to rotors)
Aftermarket stuff like AAP, Pep Boys and NAPA are good for your mom's minivan but I wouldn't ever buy it for my car.

all the rotors are the same, unless you have the JCW package.

Hemi - The rotors I'm looking at at NAPA for instance are listing types that say specifically "not for JCW package" and others are saying "not for sport package". This is what is confusing. And I'm also being told by some of the experts in here that with the type of driving I do, buying rotors designed for auto cross or even racing for that matter is a waste o' money. In fact, one merchant (AXC) talked me out of his rotors for just that reason. For that he gets my respect....AND my business.

Have you ever seen some of these soccer moms in their min vans? I think they are actually the ones that need the hi perf rotors.

Dustin - duly noted.

The only brakes that changed were for the JCW cars. What 1 manufacturer considers "Sport" may be what another knows as the JCW package. If you need rotors to survive just everyday driving, look no further than the Brembo blanks offered by Moss. That's about the cheapest you'll find rotors for a MINI. NAPA has rotors for $49 which is what Moss charges. And Moss' rotors are Brembo, a name I would trust more than "NAPA Ultra Premuim". Believe me, I worked for AAP for 2 1/2 years. They all sell out to the lowest bidder as far as quality goes.

To each his own friend, but I would NEVER put chinese or any aftermarket rotors on anything I drove unless the vehicle was originally built behind the iron curtain....Lest you be on a long road of warped rotors horror show and nightmares.

Stick with OEM from MINI, also beleive Brembo manufactures OEM rotors which will fit you existing calipers.

You and anyone whom rides in your MINI will thank you

Gents, NAPA's been around for over 80 years, I have used NAPA parts on countless cars and trucks over the last 20 years without a single issue. I have put NAPA rotors on local MINI's without issue. While I cannot speak to other parts stores parts, NAPA is a stand up company. I have other rotors from suppliers I could have sold our friend above. I do not think it's a must have for him given his use of the MINI. I'd do the same on my GF's ride or my MINI if I didn't AutoX and drive-it-like-it-owes-me-money most days.

Was just trying to help him the way I help all my customers, spend cash where it matters most and save it where you can. Not all my customers nor all NAM members have big budgets.

A Thank You to those that provided links to rotors of same price from other NAM Vendors, that's the kind of help we need.

Based on one PM I got you would have thought I told him to buy rotors are K-mart.

Peace

K-Mart sells car parts? No, seriously, NAPA does the highest quality brands out of the big aftermarket suppliers. Moog, Wagner, they even carry a lot of OEM parts like Motorcraft and AC Delco so they do carry decent stuff. I was just saying you could $50 for NAPA "Premuim Line" or you could pay $50 for Brembo's.

I just received the TSW rotors on Friday... I ordered through AXC.com. I should have the Carbotech Bobcat pads this week and they'll be installed next Saturday. http://www.autoxcooper.com/performancepackages.html The rotors on this page are the ones I received.
I read and will follow the "bedding in" procedure. Should be interesting pulling that off on local streets. Luckily my friend lives in a pretty rural area of NY so we should be able to do the job correctly the first time. This'll be my first brake job - but he's done hundreds and offered to do it for nothing just to save me some hard cash at the dealer. AND I'll learn how to do it myself the next time.
BTW, I've gotten 76,500+ miles out of the OEM set of rotors and pads on my '05. The sensors haven't triggered yet... hoping they don't before next Saturday.

DO NOT USE THE Rotor Bed In, use the Bed In that comes with the PADS. Always use the PADS Bed In.

AXC, thanks for the heads up! TSW should probably put that italicized sentence again in the "steps" section - which is what Ifocused on - rather than the intro... anyway, the important point is now understood. Thanks again. I'll check the pads box for their bed-in notes when I receive it, hopefully this week.

TSW should also know that the word is spelled "manufacturer." Not manufacture. (I had a Mom that taught grammar for 30 years and I was the recipient of many corrections.). ;-)

I wasn't aware of this procedure. Guess I'd better read my pad instructions when they get here. This brings up the question, "Do the dealers do this procedure when replacing brakes/rotors?".

The dealers I've worked for use compunds that are a lot less sensitive to break-in procedure. The basic procedure was to roll through an empty section of parking lot and stop from 10 mph, 20 mph, then about 30. Don't allow the car to stop. And this was the normal procedure at 3 different dealers and was done by ASE certified master techs and all 3. But again, this was a much softer and less sensitive OE compound.

Have you got the bed in procedure for the carbotech pads available?
