Switch Removal Outside Mirror Adjustment 2006

I need to remove the outside mirror adjustment switch (also has heated seat switches) from the center console. How does it come out?

Also looking for a replacement switch.

Thanks

Rich

No, the switch assembly comes off separately. In fact, you can't remove the center console until you've already removed the switch assembly.

It comes right off by prying it up. On my car, I can take it off with no tools -- put my fingernails under the edge and work around the perimeter lifting it up. Doing it for the first time, it was tighter and I needed help from a screwdriver. You can also take off the shifter ring (pops right off) and push the switches up from underneath.

What isn't working?

The switches aren't available as individual replacement parts; you need to order the entire unit.

Follow the instructions for removing the shifter boot in this link:

http://www.redlinegoods.com/MINIinstall.shtm

Once the shifter boot is removed, you will need to gently press on the metal pressure clips and put your fingers under the unit and push upwards and the unit will pop out. You will then be able to disconnect the quick-connects and remove the unit.

I'm almost finished with a painting project involving the interior bits...I had wanted to remove the 3 buttons so I could paint the oval "backing" piece...that's how I found out the buttons cannot be removed.

Good luck!

I removed the shifter boot and was able to push the assembly out. Thanks Uber Blu-Erika.

The switch is burnt due to a short in one of the mirrors when I was adding the electric folding mirror option. Self inflicted problem! That will be a $200 error

Got mine out, but the two wiring connectors are darn near impossible to remove. I finally got the white one, but the black one isn't giving it up.

How hard should this be? I'm afraid to force it and break something...any ideas?

Once the shifter boot was removed I pushed from the bottom while prying with a wide flat bladed screw driver from the top. I put some masking tape on the blade of the screwdriver to prevent scratches. There are four spring clips that hold the switch in place. Two of them popped out and I had to retreive them near the shifter.

I replaced my switch with a new one and everything is now working!

Do you mean disconnecting the wire connectors? Mine were very firmly seated and one was difficult to take off. The plug has a small nub that locks into a hole in the connector. You have to press down on the nub with a small tool (I used a jewelers screwdriver) so it lets the plug to be pulled out. It was still very stuck and took some prying to make the nub release from the hole.

Yes, thank you, those wire connectors are exactly what I was referring to. For one the nub was exposed and with enough effort it finally came out (that one was white) although it was apparent whether the nub had anything to do with it. The other plug (the black one), the nub was not exposed, and no amount of effort could get that one out.

old thread. My switch was broken so I just busted it open. there are little nubs on the black and white connectors but very hard to get to or press in.
