(Yes, I realize that the subjects grammar is bad.)

So, we've talked about the EVOs, the WRX/STIs, even the SRT-4s. But lets talk serious shop here. You've got your MINI now. You've driven it for a while. You love it's aggressive handling and its relative quickness. Sure you considered other cars before you bought it, and surely you've seen the occasional car on the road that is able to drag your eyes away from your primary lust-object.

But let's say that you won the lottery. Let's just say that your MINI was totalled, and there was no possibility of getting another one. What car would you get and why?

What I'm interested in, is what cars really jump out at you as being serious competitors for the MINI in all of its aspects. Fun, styling, comfort, handling, eye-catching. Certainly a new Maserati Spyder would be a fun addition to your garage, but do you really want to take it out on the twisties? Yeah, a Cobra would be a blast, but would you really want to take it out on road trips? Think long and hard before jumping in...

So, who wants to start?

If I won the lottery, I'd end up owning several cars. but your question has the tone that you'd like me to name the ONE car I'd get if I had the needed money and I couldn't get a MINI.

A Porsche Boxter.

I would have to say that if money were no object I would get either an m3 or one of the alpina v8 z4's. An m3 is always a good bet to turn heads, have fun, and give a comfortable ride, and I just love the looks of the new z4's.

Nice list Ryan. Only changes I would make to your list is I would substitute the Ferrari’s for a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren or a Porsche Carrera GT and the Bentley Arage I would substitute with a Bentley Continental. I would throw in a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with 987 hp, how could you go wrong? And knowing you, I would bet you are driving that Ferrari by age 32. Good luck!

Jerry

Another MCS

I had the opportunity to buy pretty much whatever I wanted and I chose the MCS.

I like it--nice performance with good gas mileage. Fuel consumption was most important to me, so when I found a super-fun car with mileage comparable to less-than-super-fun cars, I bought it.

thank you jerry. yeah i love the carrerra gt too, but the ferrari is my thing man. i remember when i was younger i saw michael jordan driving into the united center in a black suit in a silver 456 gt. that image has been with me mentally since that day. i think thats what drives me to succeed. i am sure people think i am materialistic and such, but thats who i want to be. not famous, just well off

and you know instead of the slr, check out the sl55 amg, its pretty much the slr design..i went and sat in one yesterday at the mercedez dealership..its bootyfull

that is what he wrote Ryan Z.

I have no doubt that the MINI is much more reliable than the Ferrari; bringing the car to the dealership twice a month just for routine maintenance would get old really fast.

Boys, Boys... the "he" you're referring to is a she!

That said... I've never been interested in Ferrari's. I... uhh... well... I think they're really stupid looking (sorry--no offense. To each his/her own)

I don't dig super expensive cars, in general. I think the highest priced car I checked out when purchasing was a BMW 330ci. But the fuel economy sucked, so that pipe dream lasted all of 20 minutes. My MCS suits me just fine--and it's the car I chose above all other cars for that very reason.

My ridiculous boyfriend lusts after an S4 but I don't underdtand: why pay all the extra money for HP/Torque he's never gonna drive and a suspension he'll never properly work. Just buy the A4, get better fuel economy and be done with it.

There's my train of thought.

Incidentally, now that I've finally chimed in, I can't help but point out how quickly this thread diverged from my original intent. I've been thinking long and hard about this, and I don't really think that the Ferrari would EVER be a reasonable substitute for an MCS. A blast to drive? Absolutely. As tight in its handling and as useful a daily driver as it is a track car? Not so much.

The M3 option, I totally get. And the S4 thing as well. Even a 911 could work, though I think the market is getting so saturated now that heads aren't turning as much. So let's put the Bugattis and the Bentleys and the Lamborghinis aside for a moment...let's get a bit smaller shall we? (After all, we all drive MINIs...we have nothing to compensate for, right?)

Cheers, and keep it coming! This is my slow Sunday at work entertainment!

Well, the only times that I would get anything other than a MINI would be if MINIs spontaneously combusted, stopped running after 75000 miles, or if MINIs were german spy machines monitoring the US without the unsuspecting owners knowing that they were a threat to homeland security. If two or more of these actually happened and I was able to buy anything I believe it would be the Bugatti Veyron.
Oh yea, a cool million--

Sorry if it is too big. 0-62 MPH in a sweet 2.9seconds. I am not sure which is more of a possibility- having a million to spend on a car or the whole german spycar thing

Ryan, the Mercedes SLR McLaren is a limited production 580 hp 5.4 liter supercharged V-8 coupe, 0 to 60 in 3.7 second. Only about 150 per year into the US and it won’t be available until early next year and will retail for approximately $350,000. I looked at the CLK55 AMG coupe but it didn’t do much for me. I have never cared for cabriolets or roadsters, so the SL55 AMG is out. You have an open invitation to come on down to Julian (up to Julian, 4,200 feet) and take my ’04 M3 with SMG for a spin when I get it the end of October, just give me some time to get it nice and broken in. I debated about getting one of the last E39 M5’s, but I had had one in 2001 and wanted something different so I went with the E46 M3. My plan now is to get one of the new V-10 500 hp M5’s in a couple of years after they have been out at least a year. I am already on my dealers list for one. And being lucky and well off is much better then being good and famous!

Some interesting choices here. I'd base my decision on what caught my eye- what car is visually arresting. If it's exotic, like a Ferrari or Maserati, it gets my attention, but I wouldn't want a car which screams 'look at me!!' quite that loudly. Porsches are great machines, but they bore to me at this point- too many of them around. An M3? It looks like a slightly dressed up 3 series, and again, there's one on every corner. Yes, TMGRobyn, the only time in the last 5 years or so that a car stopped me in my tracks was when I first laid eyes on the Audi TT. Talk about radical styling. If I could get another car, that would be it, though the new Nissan ZX's and Infiniti's have killer looks and turn my head as well. However, the MINI is in that category. I was absolutely knocked out when I saw it, and I'm now driving an AFFORDABLE automotive dream machine. Not sure I'd change, even w/ the dough to do so. In fact, I don't even want an S, as I much prefer the lines and trim of the regular Cooper, but that's another thread

Am I the only one who wants a Porsche Carrera GT? That is the first supercar (or car for that matter) to ever make me feel a car IS a work of art.....ever. If money was not an issue, that's what I would get.
