Air bag warning light

Has come on in my '03 R53...

I don't really want to take it to to the dealer.....then bend over and take it from the dealer.....

Any Ideas of what I can check before I have to find the KY?

Cheers,

S.

I know they did a fix on mine under a TSB. Not sure which one, it might have been a recall.

There's a warranty extension on ONE of the connectors

don't remember which one. Sad thing is, even if you fix the fault, you still need the right tool to clear the light. It's a latching light, and will stay on even if the fault is no longer present.

i have the same thing happen to my 02 r53..i know that autozone in my area will pull the codes for it for free and then you can decide if you want to take it to a dealer..the airbag is covered under warranty sometimes....if you go to autozone and see whats wrong with it you could call the dealer and see if its covered under warranty..if not then have a local place work on it

There are codes and there are codes...

airbag codes are NOT the standard OBD-II codes, and not many scanners can get them.

I think this is a common-ish problem. I know I've got it now. I do remember reading they extended the warranty to fix the light for 10 years. call up the dealer I guess.

my '03 MCS has the airbag light on, they reset it at the dealership and it came back on in the testdrive. they said that they know that the driverside is working but not sure about the passengerside (how they know this is beyond me). it's an electrical problem they said, aparently pretty common

The scanner knows. It reports an open, short or whatever for whichever leg of the circuitry is not working right. They ought to be able to say with certainty what connection is flakey...

Gen 1 Mini's had a problem with the wiring/connector under the seat being too short. Sliding the seat to the extreme pulled on the connector. There was a TSB out on it's replacement, I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that TSB.

I had this same problem. The TSB was for Mini US only. I took it all the way up to Mini Canada and they didn't give two hoots about it. I don't remember how much i paid but they basically replaced the wiring harness under the passenger seat. And that seems to be the common issue too. As someone said, the original wiring was too short and caused a problem.

I'll check to night to see exactly how much it cost me!

There is a sensor in your front bumper for the Air bag deployment system.

It must be secured...if it comes loose (and dangles)the sensor cannoit work properly and throws a code....you must re attach the sensor correctly and have your codes cleared.

You are on your own for the window issue....

Cheers,

S.

Once you take the bumper cover off it's pretty evident....
A sensor hanging from a wire! It needs to back in it's clip...and I would tie strap (zip strap) it just to make sure it stays put.
