Insulting...
I thought I would share something that I recently read on bimmerforums.com that is kind of insulting.
"Hahahahahah. wow so you and your dad got picked off by a mini. Im surprised your dad raced the guy. Mini's are usually driven by women and the chance that there is a guy driving. most either have some sort of Euro wanna be look going with poor dental hygiene , or some other sort of orientation confusion going on." -Hammad
I couldn't believe this guy was serious but apparently he was. This was in response to a thread about a race in which the mini won.

Get used to it. When I told my friends I was ordering one, the general reaction was "What? I thought only lesbians drive those!" No lie.
I guess I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body.

I didn't find it insulting, just a normal response from a BMW owner.
I work at a body shop that does a lot of repairs on euro cars. Most (notice I said most, not all) bimmer owners I deal with have this aire about them; I'm sorry but the word ***** comes to mind. I guess their pissed because they paid twice as much for their car as we did, and don't have half the fun as we do.

Shame nearly every part on the MINI is engraved with the three letters "BMW".

I'm a believer in Actions Speak Louder Than Words... So I let my MINI speak for me.
But along the lines of moron comments, I did have my ex-wifes new boyfriend tell
my daughter that I'm a liar about the MINI being a BMW product.
He says that I'm only saying it is made by BMW because he drives a Mercedes and
that I'm trying to be cool like him.
Well the fact is that I would never trade my MINI for Mercedes family wagon.
And my MINI belongs to me unlike the Mercedes he is bragging about which actually belongs to my ex-wife.

and walks away.
When I first went to my dealership to actually sit in a MINI and talk to my MA, because of the way the dual dealership was laid out (two separate buildings next to each other), I accidentally walked into the BMW part. I was wearing short, knit shirt, tennis shoes, etc. I couldn't get anyone inside to even acknowledge that I even existed. They were all standing around in their suits trying to ignore me. Finally, I forced my way into one of the 'private salesman' conversations and asked directions, and the reply I got was merely a finger pointing in the direction of the other building.
Off to the MINI side of the house, where all the salesmen were be-bopping around, also in shorts, tennis shoes, chatting, and immediately came to me, starting talking, etc, just like you walked into your fave bar and your friends were already there waiting on you.
I told them that if the other side had been the MINI side, I would have already walked out. People and their attitudes.
This week I got a parking lot comment I have never heard before... "Does it come in hybrid"? When I said no, he just walked off.
Everyone I see calls my MINI a clown car, or since I'm "a bit larger" than most people, they say, "How do you fit in there". You get over it... most of them are just trying to be nice and say something funny and kid a little bit.

i am also, as you say, larger than most. i am 6'5" and the mini is primarily driven by my wife, but i do love it and have very much fun driving it. anyway when i do i get those reactions almost all of teh time...
the funny thing is now i am getting more of the "what kind or mpg do you get in that?" those people are all driving the larger vehicles, trucks, suvs, vans, you know.i have an suv as well, we have 3 kids, and i hate to drive it with its 13.3 mpg average.
i just tell them really good, and tehn shrug it off. it does get a lot of positive attention as well though!

I just said, "I'll bet!" Ended up getting an average of 30 mpg with a mix of 75-85mph driving over the 1500 mile round trip. It was awfully sweet!
Oh, and that Bimmer guy is a moron too.

This is a typical response from someone sporting a Teutonic penile enhancement device with those famous three letters in plain sight.
The biggest hurdle I had to buying a MINI was it's parent company. Not that they have bad products, mind you. It's the culture of the latte-sipping status symbol crowd (not the true enthusiasts for the most part though) and the closed nature of the technical end of things from the company that I cant stand (and still dont).
That being said, to that forum poster I would say I am comfortable in my orientation and can still kick your azz, with or without my chick car.

I am 6'7 and people at work are always making comments like "How do you fit in that thing?"
I also have gotten the "How much gas does that take?"
And the best comment lately came from a guy and his wife driving a Tundra V8 truck. They tried to pass me a few times on a busy street. It finally opened up so I sped up. They did an OK job for a while keeping up. At the light the guy honked and said "WOW! what all have you done to that thing? It's fast!" I just laughed and said Nothing yet. This was all on a street that the limmit was 60 so I wasn't racing or anything.
