I used to frequent the bimmerforums quite a bit...Lots of good knowledgeable people there regarding all manner of racing, engines, etc. I have much respect for people on their site...But they do have a lot of immature young kids on that forum. The MODs on that site spend a good time babysitting, banning, and timeouting a lot of youngsters/idiots who don't know any better. I don't really see that here on this site.

That being said, if he really believes the things he is saying...then so be it. It just shows how ignorant and insecure he or she really is. I mean come on...If you have to put people down through the internet to make themselves feel superior because someone drives a certain car That's why we have an IGNORE option we can use to not deal with people that have nothing to contribute to a thread but garbage. I say "NEXT..." and move on.

When people make that comment, I pull the photo off the back of my desk that shows my 'chick car' on the track... the Lotus and Honda S2000 that I passed in the background w/ the M3 in front of me that I took in the next lap!

This thread just proves something I've always believed. You have to be different to be a MINI owner; and by that I mean that you have be comfortable within yourself. Like everybody else, at least in part, we buy our beloved little cars because of what they say about us to the rest of the world. And that is simply this, our MINI's tell the rest of the world that we don't need for them to approve of our choice of automobile. We only need our own individual approval in order to feel good about our choice. You really do have to be an individualist to own a MINI.

or just really a true "auto" enthusiast!

i personally like cars, mainly imports, but i am very into the euro models as well. i am not very partial to domestics.

i like cars for what they are, or can be with mild modifications. my favorites would be nissan, but i would not impose my personal opinions or beliefs in a superiority of one make over another, especially when that particular make owns/builds the other in question. i bought the mini because it is a fun little quick car, and it looks very different from everything else out there. i love to drive it and my infiniti both very much, but i let my wife have it most of the time because my infiniti is MY project, and she respects that (to some degree) and the mini is mainly for her, as it was her birthday present from me. i got rid of my maxima to get it for her.

this guy was just dumb. that is like saying that a lexus is far more superior to a toyota, it in fact IS a toyota.....

I was also very active on Bimmerforums. Let me tell you, there are good people there, but very few. I don't know how to sum it up, but it's a very angry forum. It's like, I can't ask anything without a flame suit on. It's like the freeway 405, some people get on it just to be a-holes.

Like Jeremy Clarkson said, "M3 drivers have no friends"

Regarding the original post, I bet Hammad(?) he has a very tiny you-know-what.

Yes...I was one of those former M3 Owners who drove like a bully at times, I must confess. And I had a few friends

But yes...BFc is a good place to hang out and get to know some of the people. Their FI section, Track Sections and individual model sections have lots of good information. Their Mini section is a little light. Not lots of activity.

In general, I learned lots of things from those folks...but they had way to many knuckleheads who would ruin it for everyone else. I knew a few mods pretty well and they were always having to police people like they were kindergarteners.

Just did a cross country trip, with a CB. While passing through the ever so exciting NV desert I came across a pair of 18-wheelers talking.

Truck 1:"See that little car with the yellow headlights, must be japanese"
Truck 2:"Yeah what is that? Must be one of those Morri-"
Truck 1:"It's a MINI Cooper"

Biggest news in the area since the renovation of the whorehouse at the truckstop.

Here is why I got a Mini...

I am 31 and I have owned 17 cars/trucks so far. I have had everything from an air bagged Dodge Dakota to a Cadillac Sedan Deville, BWM, Nissan 300z and a 300z Turbo.. Just to name a few.

My mail vehicle for the last few years was a 1995 Ford Bronco. 351 motor, recently lifted 6 inches, 35 inch tires, 4.88 gears and detroit lockers (for those who know off road trucks)....

I was in the desert and smashed the front end on something. So my insurance company gave me a rental while I has my sisters body shop check out the truck..

Went to the rental place and all they had was full size trucks. I really didn't want to spend a ton in gas for a rental truck. They had an 07 Mini convertible. I looked at it and laughed. Thinking I wouldn't even fit (I am 6'7). So I sat in the thing and I did fit.. So I ended up with a JustAcooper convertible with 7k miles and the auto tranny.

for the first hour or so I thought it was kinda cheaply made (stripped version) but after a day of driving I was having a blast with it. It handled awesome, was fast, fun and I LOVED the cool convertable. The option of having it open a bit or all the way was so cool. So since I was spending over 100 bucks to fill the truck up I wanted a Mini. I spent about a month looking at ever dealer and internet car I could find. Ended up getting my 03 MCS. So far this and the bronco have been the best vehicles I have had ever.

Thats why I have a Mini. Good gas. FAST.. Fun. I fit in it...

I enjoy peoples' reactions to the MINI. Occasionally, it becomes a prime opportunity to observe an individual's raw personality. Some people get it, and you can tell; those who don't come in three general flavors: entertained, curious and obnoxious. Three out of four of those groups, I will entertain any questions they have and even strike up conversation. The fourth group... I slyly exit the conversation and move on. I just don't have the patience to entertain someone's poorly conceived remarks. Well, that and no hubris.

went and did some reading there...

The entire "Kill Stories" area is full of more BS crap than I'd ever imagined possible.

I wouldn't worry about "Iamnotsakred" or whatever Hammads user name is. His posts indicate he is a first class a-hole!

....love Clarkson... he's a gem.

RE: the MINI, I get all sorts of questions. From... "Does it get good gas mileage?" to "What kind of horsepower does it have?" The occasional chick car comment or two, but that's fine by me.

There's dolts in all walks of life. Including car forums.

I don't really care if they like the car or not. I didn't buy two of them to make an impression on anyone but myself. I'm the yahoo who had to write the checks for them, so I better be happy about doing the writing.

+1 as to bimmerforums / e46fanatics: awesome resource with some very knowledgeable members -- but unlike NAM and for the reasons already noted by others, I only go there when I need specific info to fix something ... I run in, grab what I need, and bolt out as soon as possible

So did I until I smoked a Jag on an interstate transition cross-over. I was gently overtaking when he decided no MINI was going to pass him. Two lanes. No traffic. Nice sweeping road with just enough curve to make him back off while the MINI was still very comfortable. And I was on the interior line, too, with the tighter turn!

I don't rise to the bait often, but this was just too perfect a situation to let pass.

My son has a subscription to I think Import Tuner... A reader wrote into the Editor last month about having some write up's on Mini's. His reaction was that Mini's are overpriced, underpowered, and Men that drive them must be gay...Having said that the old Porsche 914 and 924 were not real Porsche's according to the "Old Guard". I have a 72 Ferrari Dino and there are those that still don't consider it a "Real" Ferrari.
