R50/53 Insulting...
My son has a subscription to I think Import Tuner... A reader wrote into the Editor last month about having some write up's on Mini's. His reaction was that Mini's are overpriced, underpowered, and Men that drive them must be gay...Having said that the old Porsche 914 and 924 were not real Porsche's according to the "Old Guard". I have a 72 Ferrari Dino and there are those that still don't consider it a "Real" Ferrari.

Part of that's just human nature - no matter how small of a group you're in, some people within that group will seek to subdivide it further. In the Navy, I've experienced a lot of the "aviators versus submariners versus surface sailors" infighting, although a lot of it is just good-natured ribbing. Among MINI owners, I'm sure you've noticed a lot of bickering between the first-gen and second-gen owners. Back when the MINI first came out, there was a LOT of animosity toward the MINI on the part of "classic" Mini owners, so this is nothing new.
It's like the Arab proverb - 'Me against my brother; me and my brother against our cousin; and me, my brother and my cousin against the stranger.' The MINI/Mini community does a good job of presenting a united front when it comes to "outsiders" bashing our cars, but that doesn't mean we all view each others as equals.

Modern MINI comes out monthly. It is a British based magazine, but from time to time feature MINIs in the USA and other countries.
long story short, "hammds" problem is he is just a little upset he spent 60 thousand dollars on his bmw to pick up girls, but has no game to get them. and when he notices a guy driving a mini doesn't need to buy an expensive car to make up for things he is "lacking" jealousy kicks in, then the bantering of minis begins. dont be jealous you got beat by a mini it happens to everyone
"Hahahahahah. wow so you and your dad got picked off by a mini. Im surprised your dad raced the guy. Mini's are usually driven by women and the chance that there is a guy driving. most either have some sort of Euro wanna be look going with poor dental hygiene , or some other sort of orientation confusion going on." -Hammad
Just a hunch.
Hammad sounds like the same guy we came across at the BMWCCA LA HPDE at California Speedway last October.
We were with a group of 20 MINIs from SCMM taking part in their Car Control Clinic and two day driving school. My wife and I went into the HQ office to return a helmet that she used to go around the track as passenger. There was a young guy sitting with the BMW event organizer. Once he found out that we had MINIs he insulted us by saying, "They're not real cars". Even though the event organizer tried to apologize for his rude comment, the guy kept on and on that the MINIs didn't have any horsepower. Eventually the event organizer told him to shutup for being ignorant. The guy was in his early 20s and all he cared about was his collection of M3s.
Not all BMW owners are rude. At the last two BMWCCA HPDEs, we have had a lot of BMW owners come up to us and admire our MINIs, especially after coming off the track. I hope Hammad attends the BMWCCA HPDE at Willow Springs at the end of May so he can see how much more fun MINI owners have when passing their "better" BMW counterparts.
