R50/53 SRT-4 engine swap into MINI?
I think you misunderstood.
The PS on the neon is belt driven and located on the front side. A 2.4 motor swap in a neon cannot use the standard bracket to locate the PS pump. To keep the PS in this swap a bracket has to be fabricated. A 2.4 or 2.0 in the Mini is going to have substantially less area in front of the motor than the neon and will have to make use of the existing mini unit, as you discovered, behind the motor. I'm only referring to logistics of this routing not its removal.
Maybe you should become familiar with the neon motor before trolling in the future.

I am familiar with the performance aspects of it, and have many buddies here locally pushing over 500 easily. One with 874 to the wheels... Thus my interest in the swap... This thread I have been trying to use to discover the logistics in the swap, what would be involved, and fab work to be done... The Elec. PS in the mini would be able to still be utilized in the swap, so im trying to understand why you think it need's to stay oin the motor??? I dont need the neon PS pump if I'm keeping the MINI PS.......
I'm saying if the PS pump in the common neon can't use the stock bracket in a 2.4 swap (where deck height is pretty much the only difference) the dimensions of the engine may affect the use of the stock Minis electric pump behind the motor. Thats all. Maybe it can go in the boot with a long hose, I dunno. But its an issue in a neon 2.0 to 2.4 swap which means its going to be a bigger issue in the mini.
The car weighs sub 3000lb put your man pants on and ditch the PS problem solved. You are referring to 1gn neon mounts I was talking about SRT ones, from what I have seen of mini engine bays they look closer. The later 2.4 is an NGC engine this is one of the reasons I posted about NGC, dimensionally the heads are the same.
The person to contact for the motor is probably Cory at www.modernperformance.com. I know he has done SRT engine swaps into the 1st gen neons. Someone also implanted a Honda S2000 2.0 liter engne in but im sure it wasnt cheap. I personally think it would be a tight fit but of course i never thought the 4.6 Supercharged Cobra motor and tranny would fit under the factory hood of a RWD converted SVT either but it did and still pulled over 1g on the skidpad too. If you can think of it someone can do it. Good luck. Hope this helps. Modern performance specializes in neons and cobalt SS's. If you want an SRT there is a guy here where i live that is selling a burnt orange one that is modded out the hiney.
hey
Just saying that Cory might be able to find the motor not do the swap. I used to have a 95 NYG ACR neon but got over replacing front radiator supports.

Finding a motor won't be too difficult. Between myself and brothers (all have done some form of neon motor swap) we have our sources.
I have no doubts a swap can be done (6cyl racer in europe). Its just not going to be a straight forward weekend type swap that can be found in other makes. And really, if one were to pursue the effort, why stop at a 2.4 from a friken Neon. And for that case, why not a classic mini with a bike motor - you'll have the same money in it and one will be loads more fun.
I have no plans to do this to my current mini. Maybe down the road when minis are cheaper I'll find a repairable or a roller needing a dust off.

I think this would be a great idea if you could do it simply. I'm going to have to find a new engine in the immediate future and only use my car on the track now. I think it would be amazing to have a 2.0 or 2.4 and pay considerably less than what it would take to get an r53 engine.
