SRT-4 engine swap into MINI?
I heard the mounting points are similar, but prob TOO big for the engine bay... is it a plausible swap without spending a rediculous amount of money on it? I havent seen an srt4 engine bay too many times so forgive me if it is a terrible question, I just heard from a mechanic that its similar

funny, if you look at the SRT4 motor and the R50/R53, you realize they're quite similar. All three are TRITEC designs

I dunno, the mini is an expensive car to mod to barely get into the 13's in a 1/4 mile... I know thats not what the mini was made for but it is still nice to have that power... The srt-4 has huge potential and is cheap to mod...

I do too, but youd beat them even worse with more power, dont you think? I miss speed... I LLOOOOVVVEEE a good handling car and thats why i bought the mini after i wrecked my 400+hp RWD 944 turbo. I built that motor with the best items, only to get hit by a guy running a red @ 50+mph after only 800 miles into the break in with a stage 3 clutch, koni coilovers, weltmeister sways, camber adj plates, the suspennsion was just dialed in to my liking. Mahle over-bored pistons, carillo rods, k-27 turbo, autothority maf, spec stage 3 clutch, champion motorsports adj bypass valve, B&B exhaust, custom chips, all new vaccume lines, lindsey racing dual port wastegate, hks turbo timer, apexi- avc type r EBC, headwork, sieman #55 injectors... it took a whole year to build... I was killing my friends 350Z with nissmo intake and nissmo exhaust on only 7-8 psi of boost and shortshifting @ 4500-5000rpm max (redlined @ 7000 rpm)... I was able to run 18psi safely... I dunno, the mini is great but i've been spoiled...lol

BTW, The mini suprised me and I love it for what it is! A great gas saving, g-force bending, peppy, "I look cute, but act like a race-car", woman magnet with a side order of extra fun ride! I just like power while im at it so i can beat the snobby 335i owners and evos and STI's... (I love BMW BTW, Son of an e46 m3 smg, x5, E60 M5 with mods owner... went to the M-driving school and it was awesome! I showed those older ppl how to drive on a tight course...lol) Just the owners of the 335i's think they are too hot for others.... I dunno, I like putting people in their place... HAHAHA... Im just ranting now, but I like the idea of the 2.4 turbocharged motor in the mini! If it can handle the way it does and kill many other performance cars in the straight line it would be rediculously fun to drive! It already is awesome

lol, That crash made me poor... my insurance is still not settled either, the other guy had a "witness" saying he was in the right away and so far they just gave me 8 grand for the car... which is still about 10 grand short... we both have the same insurance (mercury) and it seems like they just dont want to further investigate and give me whats mine... Im going to try to save up and buy an srt-4 engine and have my mechanic do the swap... But I was more of throwin around the idea... besides I am only 21 and still in college, I need to try to get somewhere first for basketball (im @ a junior college right now and about to transfer with an AA)... I need the money for school right now. If there is anyone knowledgeable about srt-4's and mini's on here please chime us in on what needs to be done!

I personally think this is blasphemous. I totally concur with the "jock rock" post up there. TRITEC or not, boooooooo.
Reading your posts, as it was mentioned above, it seems like you are long on resources. I'd love to see you build the hell out of this MINI, but I don't think that you should select the motor based on the possible commonality of mounts. To fabricate mounts with a good (read: Porsche/BMW/Audi/VW) engine would be pretty simple, compared to the overall scale of your project.
Whatever you choose - we want pics!

Haha, I agree college students Staaarrrvvveee... LOL.... I want Jans head and a tune... I want 250fwhp on the dyno @ the shop I work at by the time that Im done... I only hit in the 150's on our dyno dynamics dynometer un-corrected... Maybe twincharge kit? As i can get it for a decent price or maybe turbo conversion instead? I dunno what is needed and i need the car reliable because it is a daily driver... thats why ill wait to go crazy with the mini... ima just do all bolt ons until after college...

why not get the JCW kit and add to it. this car doesn't weigh that much, you don't need 400++ hp to do the same work. change the gearing. that is what i did with my infiniti. i put a spec-v 6 speed in it. yeas it cost like $2500, but i have more speed and better gas mileage, with the same engine.
and i have plans to do an engine swap in it, but a newer version of the same SR20DE motor, just more efficient head and then build the crap out of it... even that will cost me like $5000. and a lot of work.

The MINI was built a lot better than the SRT-4. I test drove an SRT-4 and it was fun to drive, but nowhere near that of a MINI. Granted, Dodge did a good job of planting a solid engine in a crappy chassis but it isn't enough. Axle issues, shifters breaking and cd's literally SHOOTING OUT of the car were issue that made me keep the Mustang GT at the time.
I've thought about this swap as well, but getting the engine in the car (physically) wouldn't be such an issue as the wiring and such I would thing. That and passing emissions...but around here you can get around that ( ). A 400whp MINI would rock the Autox. Would be cool.
In short: Do it and then do the swap for me
