Wow much have you read about TCing? It is not cheap unless you think $6k is cheap. And it is definetly not "safe"... haha... pushing twice the amount of boost thru your stock motor is a recipe for dissaster, unless you plan on building it... trust me, I've been there and am on my 3rd motor.... It all comes back to the old saying, "Pick Your Poison"...

I wish someone would just do this already, but I think our cars are too new and expensive for this. The majority of people who do crazy swaps like this buy a really cheap car with a blown motor and then do it. For example the person mentioned in this thread that bought a 95 M3. If we could buy a 12 year old bmw mini in decent shape for a few thousand, people would be playing with this more. If I had the money lying around, I'd buy a mini with a blown motor and swap something just for fun, but I think it would still cost way too much for the car even without an engine. I would never do this to my current mini because...I need to drive it around. Too much fabrication and dealing with the unknown to do this on my daily driver.

there is no hate for the 2jz at all... its an amazing power plant. but when swapped into a american muscle car, i think its just pointless. you dont take a muclse car icon and put a japanese engine in it... do an LS series swap with twin turbo and you got something there. but needless i do love the 2jz...
as for the twin charging... you can make big power out of it if you spend the right money. yea 6K isnt cheap but think about the amount you would spend to swap the srt-4. i just dont see it worth while. if you want something with more power move away from the mini.
more power is always a big thing for guys who love cars. i have my 04 cooper s up at 256whp. its quick but now its getting slow for me.. i dont want to fork out the cash for a twin charge kit or to retro fit the M62 blower on it so im considering getting rid of the car and making a better investment in my mind with getting something thats faster as a stock car.. (135i).. i just dont see the point of big power in a front wheel drive car.
my good friend has a chevy cobalt ss. took of the blower did a fully built engine and a huge turbo. he is doing 650+whp on 35psi but doesnt hook at all under 80mph.
big HP is pointless unless you can put it on the ground...

i agree 100%
if you blow your motor then it would be worth thinking about. no point of getting rid of something that isnt broke to do this. unless you have your heart set on it..then more power to ya.
and for a side note. im not against anyone who is thinking of the srt swap. i just dont see it being worth it in my opinion.

Very well put closing statement...
I agree about the amount of time and money it will take to do this swap and however not worth it that the project may be, it would be sweet to see as something different and unique... And it wouldn't take much more than a built motor running TC'd, the biggest obsticle that is turning me away from this swap is the wiring... If someone could slice the system im, I'd be all for it....

i wll agree that it would be pretty sweet for someone to do for sure!! i wont deny that. if you have the time and money to make it work, hell go for it!! Originally Posted by Haggardsk8er

i think if someone wants to do a mini with a turbo only... it would be a lot more interesting to swap the R56 engine in the car.. now that would be cool!!
wow... u have 256whp? what head you running? cam?

webb stage 3 big valve head. schrick cam. it was at 220whp till i had it dyno turned at genisis racing and development.. (they specialize in subi's and twin turbo 350z and g35's) but the only people out here in chicago land that tune with unichip! they did one hell of a job. and the 256 is with straight pipe. with out straight pipe its 247.Originally Posted by Myke@RPI

oh cool! Ever think about putting the 2.0L stroker kit on it? Id bet ud break 290whp easily... putting you over 330-340 crank hp... thats easily a 7:1 ratio in weight to hp... Jan ran a 1:30 @ willow springs which is up there with the viper srt10 acr! just something to think about... I am convinced the R53 is the car to mod despite it being fwd... This is coming from a guy who was sooo close to selling it cause it didnt match my 944 turbo's stats.Originally Posted by speedycoop

2.0L stroker!! tell me more!! i have been pretty bad on keeping up with aftermarket lately as i havent really thought of anything else other than a new blower or t/cing the car...

There's been a few turbo only swaps... one of em my buddy Kal here in AZ... makes over 330 with stock boost... its way more efficient... And I like the design of the R56's dohc and vvt.... but have heard some problems about the new motors. If a R56 head could bolt up the the R53... that'd be sick!!!Originally Posted by speedycoop

Ok... in that case... it will cost twice as much to build the R50 due to replacing all the internals with forged ones... ie... crank, rods, pistons... And the MCS swap into the R50 is not an easy one either... you need to splice in wiring as well... including the interior harness, not just engine harness....

Yeah... look up revolution mini works! 2.0L stroker motor and hes comming out with a more efficien supercharger and w2A intercooler!!! u should be over 300whp with that and its easier to control than a turbo setup!Originally Posted by speedycoop

The stroker turbo only drag motor is $20k...
Parts aren't cheap for these cars you know....

First off, if I was doing it, I'd keep it a 1.6 to keep cost waaayyyy down. 2nd, building a turbo R50 based motor will not 12k. The R53 rods and crank and more than capable of the job so why upgrade? If this was me, I'd shoot for 300whp and be more than happy as that's far more than enough to shut down a lot of cars. New pistons, what 1k? Head, 2500. Turbo and manifold 3k. Cam, 400. Spend another 2-3k on fuel and misc. things like tune and I think you'll be good to go. On the other hand, I know I'm gonna catch flak for this as I can see what the attitude is of some people in this thread.
Far be it for me, someone and possiably the ONLY one on this thread right now to have gone TC'd... Forget what mistakes have been made in the past... feel free to do your own thing and blow your $h!t... some people I guess just have to learn the hard way... There are plenty of threads that focus on TCing and turbo only so if you wanna pursue that, please, use the "search" option and be about your way...
Let's get back on topic shall we now???

What up with the Getrag bolt pattern and the SRT 5-spd bolt pattern?
I know the 1.6 and the 2.0 of the neon have it since they are both made by Tritec, so can this be a possibility???
