Spark Plug Gap

Man, MINI does NOT want you changing your own oil and spark plugs - there's absolutely nothing in the owners manual for either.

I did some checking around and got the proper plugs for my '05 MCS, the NGK Iridium ZFR6FIX-11, which are pre-gapped at .45. Now my question: is this the proper gap, or do I need to adjust it? I'm running a completely stock engine; no pulley or CAI mods.

Yup, .045 is the right gap for NGK Iridium plug.

Well, isn't this interesting. I pulled the plugs for replacement this evening, and it seems that whoever replaced the plugs previously (I bought the car in January of this year) used the wrong plug.

What I pulled out were the NGK BKR6EQUP, which is fine if you have a Cooper, but not if you have an MCS. The difference after I replaced the plugs was like night and day!

Interesting because I just pulled the plugs out of our 2003 MCS and they were also the bkr6equp. What's the deal? NKG lists these as fitting the MC and doesn't list them for the MCS. Should I replace them? They look OK, but it surprises me that the center electrode is flush with the insulation.

Actually I thought that was standard equipment I replaced mine with those but one range colder. I would trust what mini said over ngk

My 2003 MCS also has the BKR6EQUP in it. JCW get the BKR7EQUP
