R50/53 R56 wheels/tires on a R53?? will they fit??

Yes!
R53s have 12mm Diameter Wheel studs. R56 have 14mm Wheel Studs. So, you can put R56 wheels on a R53 ... but can't put R53 wheels on an R56 (unless you are willing to drill out the holes to 14mm. The offsets & stud pattern are both the same.
From memory the R53 may have changed to 14mm in the last few months of production ... but the answer to your question is still YES
