Theoretical question about testing the speed sensor, is it possible too plug new....

Is it possible to plug the new one in and then grounding to the car to see if the dsc light goes out? This way one could quickly see which one is bad so one doesn't have to take the wheel off and swap the whole thing out. It's probably a dumb question and I imagine the wheels have to spin to give a signal that would tell the computer there is nothing wrong anymore, then the light would go out.

the fault needs to be cleared and the wheel needs to spin in order to generate a signal to be referenced to other wheels by the dsc

Will the fault clear when the new sensor is installed and the signal is generated? Or does it need to be cleared by resetting the system somehow? Thanks Jhud

you can try a battery reset ( disconnect negative for 10 minutes ) but im not 100% sure this will resolve the issue

Ok kewl, i will change it soon. Hopefully it is the first one I try. If not then I will swap it to the other side. I would imagine only one should go bad at a time, so I'm gonna change the front drivers side, if that doesn't clear it, then I will swap it to the passenger side. If that doesn't do it then I will swap the rr to the rl and see what happens. Someone mentioned that the speedometer runs off the rr so since my speedometer is working fine that one is good for sure.

OK the drivers side front didnt do anything, so now I'm gonna swap it to the passenger's side. I wonder how long it would take for the warning light to go out. I would think right away. How long did yours take vdubdoug?

I drove around the block,so that should be over 1/4 mile. And the light is still on with both sides being swapped back and forth. I will swap the rear ones tomorrow to see. Hopefully that is the problem. If not, then some have mentioned the stearing column sensor, but that wouldn't cause the tire pressure sensor light to come on also. What about inside the wheel where the magnet of the speed sensor measures? Could that go bad?
