Rain sensor setting

I'm looking for some clarity on this. According to the manual there are 4 settings for "speed". Shouldn't the sensor determine the speed of the wipers according to the amount of rain? In my 2012 countryman there was a setting for "sensitivity" that determined when the rain sensor would react. In my new 2015 JCW the 4 speed settings don't seem to do anything different. What's the point of these speed settings?

I have found that the speed setting does nothing. The amount of rain determines how fast the wipers go regardless of what speed setting I have it on. It's actually kind of annoying because I tend to like less wiping but the car just goes like crazy. I'd actually prefer the old intermittent style wipers, but that's not even an option.

I dislike the wipers as well... they need to chill out

I like rain sensing wipers, but the wipers are pretty frantic. I feel like the people driving around me are looking at my wipers going nuts and saying, "chill out".

I love mine. There are very few times I would want to alter what they are doing.

As I understand it the speed setting is the systems reaction time not the wiper speed.

So it's how fast it reacts to the rain on the windshield and not the amount of water? Why would you need 4 settings for how fast it reacts?

In the R56 the auto wiper setting is how sensitive the wipers are - does it take a little or a lot of raindrops to start or speed them up. I imagine it is the same on the F56.

Though on the R56, the sensitivity adjustment doesn't have a huge effect and it can be hard to work out which way the adjustment goes!

One thing to remember, if you stop for fuel, turn off the engine but not the entire system, cleaning your windshield will result in having the wipers engage.
