I did a search for "Naming Your Car" or "Mini Cooper Names" and "Car Names" and found no previous thread. So I thought I'd ask all of you EXPECTANT MINI PARENTS (or new parents) what you will name or have named your car.

And if it's a boy or girl and why?

LOL Good question!

Well....... My mini is going to be a girl.. because my mini will take most of my free time I figured it would kind of be like a girlfriend (i know..... it's lame! ROFLMAO) but anyway...... I named her Samantha........ the story behind that is on one of my cd's i have the song Secret Agent Man...... and i was listening to the cd trying to figure out a name for her...... and that song came on..... and i thought Secret Agent Man...... SAM! so i concluded by thinking of the female version of the name Sam.... hence samantha! hehehehe

My MINI is named Mimi - short for Minnie Mouse, since she has a red skirt and black ears.

Another questions - when I was deciding my Mini's name, a few people said a car/machine is always a girl - is that true? I would think some Mini's might be boys.

Also have you named your cars in the past? I always have, way back to the Beetle we had, named of course - Herbie.

The "gender" of the car....(i always thought)..... was dependant on the gender of the dominant driver or the owner! Like my sister....... her toyota is a guy..... i don't recall what she named it?! I've never named cars in the past...... but this car is different so I felt it necessary in a way?!

In some ways cars are like pets.... you have to meet them before you finally decide on a name. I am inclined towards English names for the Mini given its heritage and despite its Teutonic re-engineering. For my anxiously awaited BRG MC, I am leaning towards the name Bertie after Bertie (Bertram) Wooster, a happy-go lucky gentleman of leisure, who is featured in many stories by the author P.G. Wodehouse. But I might change my mind after meeting my Mini and decide it's a girl ....

Can't wait until the Aida is unloaded and Mini comes home....

I agree with sdbillings!!!! After careful thought.....which didn't work at all (trust me...the name just hits you when it's right!) my MINI is named "British Kevin Behaving Badly". Long name, yes...but very appropriate!

Have not got my mini cooper s yet, but when I do it will be a boy, cause my wife is my best friend, and a guy also needs a best mate, that will be my mini. His name is going to be " Owen " named for the great Michael Owen of the English National Football (soccer) Team.

I have named every car I have had.....they've all been boys until the Mini.
My '87 Ford Tempo was named Clyde.
My '91 Honda Accord was named Saki.
And my pretty little Mini is named DeeDee (Dee for short).

ERIN

Good Irish name, I'm Irish. Erin is a MC BRG/White with 17" wheels w/Pzero's. She handles just great. She just loves to motor, both for short and long distances.

Well, since my S is coming with the NAV system complete with a British woman's voice, I figure my S has to be a female and that she needs a nice Welsh name. I've been pondering this issue for a while and hopefully can come up with something interesting by the end of this week.

Rokk1: "Sydney" or "Meredith" are good Welsh names. Just a thought... And guess what, my mother's name is Sydney Meredith! Love those names!

Cheers!

1. This is an important topic
2. Yeah usually you have to meet the car first
3. Yeah usually it depends on the sex of the driver
4. I think my reasoning is slighlty different to the others.

I called her "Maria" because I always wanted to have sex with a girl called "Maria" but somehow always got other names. Since I love my current girlfriend to bits and hope she will be my last, I decided to call my Mini "Maria" and settle for that!

Driving is not as good as sex, but Maria sure does get my heart pumping.

Mine is called Bernard. No particular reason. My MCS when it arrives will be called Anna-Carmen-Beyonce-Denise, after Kournikova, Electra, Knowles and Richards

Well, you can see my Mini's name on his name plate in the member's gallery (I think page 26) but just to save you time, it's Mini Me. (Also the name is not just pulled from Austin Powers but also stands for "My Mini and Me" because we do everything together

My future MCS will be named "Tracy" and he will be a boy. Tracy is a British name that means "brave". Also, his yellow color keeps reminding me of the trenchcoat **** Tracy always wears.

In my family, standards were always boys and automatics were always girls. However, with the MCS only coming in standard that would create a disproportionate amount of boys.

Thanks, Clover! I like the name Sydney. That might be a possibility.

My beautiful lady is named Holly.
First because she is Chili Red (Holly berries...)
and two becuase she has the quirky personality of one of my favorite movie characters...Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffanys.

When I finally get my Chili Red/triple white Cooper S, he will be named "Alfie."
(It's an Italian Job/Michael Cane thing.)

Happy Motoring!

You definitely have to meet your car before you name it, so you can get to know it first. My trusty Honda Accord was given the name Martha after a few weeks; it seemed to fit her deliberate pace, trustworthiness, etc. I do the same for pets - I had my kitten 2 weeks before I settled on Parker.

I just picked up my Mini Cooper, Indi Blue with white top and wheels, so I'm not sure yet. I came up with a whole list of possibilities, some for girl-cars (Eleanor, Samantha, Penny Lane), some for boy-cars (Oliver, James, Gulliver, Elliot), some for pet-cars (Cosmo). I haven't settled on anything yet, but I have decided that with the blue color, driving personality, and white-bonnet stripes, my MINI just doesn't seem like a girl-car, probably a boy.

All I can say is, take your MINI for a spin, and see what speaks to you! Have fun!

I have been thinking about names for my dark silver/black MCS but I haven't found anything yet. I probably won't know a thing until she (or he) arrives and I get in and drive.

I feel like an expectant mother. I won't really know what to name my child until it arrives and I get to hold it for the first time

However, the name Faith keeps popping up. (I've had to wait so long and I keep hoping that nothing goes wrong).

But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
