The Mini is first real life toy car, and so she gets a name. "Di" in honor of the lost Princess of Wales. My cars have been very utilitarian in the past , a 65 Valiant I called "Bomb" replaced by a 73 Dart, "Bomb II" an 80 Civic "green bean" (it was green) an 88 Taurus "fjiord" Our only new car was a 98 Saturn with no name. Our other car, a 2002 Taurus needs a name other than "war effort'' (bought because of the o% financing post 9/11 .

By way of trivia, Lloyds of London caused quite a stink recently when they stated that ships would no longer be 'shes' but 'its'

My MINI is named Sherman.

It just struck me the weekend I got him, curving through some wild S turns.

Definitely gotta be introduced to the car before you find your inspiration for his/her name. Here's Sherman now...

Princess Fiona - I have always admired the name Fiona (very British) and liked the idea of the duel personality image and since “Mrs. Peel” was already taken.

Being a golfer, I named my brg/wht mini "Mulligan"
a free shot sometimes given a golfer in informal play when the previous shot was poorly played . This is my mulligan for my past 3 SUV's:-)

So a "Mulligan" is a second chance? Sounds cool.

I was considering calling mine "Agatha" because I love mysteries and the British Agatha Christie. But I've decided to call it "Prince Charming" ...and right now I am
saying to myself hopefully, "Someday my prince will come!"

>>>>>>Well, since my S is coming with the NAV system complete with a British woman's voice, I figure my S has to be a female and that she needs a nice Welsh name. I've been pondering this issue for a while and hopefully can come up with something interesting by the end of this week.<<

I suggested to my wife (it is going to be her car) Gary, as in Gary Cooper (who played Howard Rourke in The Fountainhead- as any architects or literary buffs will know). She thought more along the lines of Alice, as in Alice Cooper.

My favorite Welsh name is Rhiannon, but a more unknown name is Eleri. I love Welsh names and think it is a great idea to go back to the land of origin! You will know when you meet her and hear her voice! Good luck!

My girl MCS is "Tabby", short for "Tabasco", cuz she's red, hot, spicy and goes anywhere! I never intended to name her, but you guys are right, once you drive a Mini, you realize that it's not just a car, it's a "being" and needs a name. It took me three days to decide on Tabby, but it fits and we are having a blast!

For some reason all our cars have names. We had a white van named Vanna. The blue truck is The Blue Whale.

The SILVER Mini is called Max, as in Maxwell, as in Maxwell's Silver Hammer, as in the Beatle's (you know, the British thing).

Oh yea, Max is all male baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. Rhiannon is a very cool name. I plan on waiting to hear the voice, look at my MINI and get a feel for her personality. At that point, I figure that a name will just jump out at me that matches my MINI perfectly.

I love that name! That is so perfect for a Chili Red MINI!

As you can see below, mine is the Mach 4. It's sorta like Speed Racer's Mach 5, but not as big or as fast, so it must be it's little brother, the Mach 4...

I plan to get a personalized euro style plate for the front that will say, "I ME MINI". My MINI's name will be "George", a tribute to the late, great George Harrison. Now will that be Fab, or what?

Just like my Username: HARMINI

Ordered her yesterday: SG/B 2003MC CVT, premium, cold, chrome, fog lights, blk cloth sport seats.

I am going to DMV tomorrow to order the personalized plates. I had a cop friend run the plates to see if the name already exists. I'm in luck!!! It's still available.
Now it will just be a race to see which comes in first, my HARMINI or her tags.

My Mini is named after everyone's favorite faux English actress - Gwyneth, or Gwynnie the Mini. Silly, but geez, I'm naming my *car* so I'm allowed to be.

My Sharona.

Play it loud - roof open and windows down.

And - listen to the words (if you can make them out!). You'll understand (I think).

I think that I am going to have to wait until I finally meet my MCS (110 days and counting, thereabouts) until a name or sex designation is reached. Until that time, I might just have to refer to mine as a 'she', mostly because 'it' just doesn't seem right
