What does E mean instead of D or P, Help!

I have Mini Cooper 2005 with ems2k DME.
I used winkfpt program to flash/update DME and it took flashing, informed me I still have 12 flashes left.

Now, I can't drive the car.
Auto tranny indicator on the dash, instead of P or D shows E all the time.
Car starts only with gas pedal down and doesn't idle without pressing on the gas peddle.

What is E and how do I get rid of it.

I tried clearing errors in inpa and leaving key in ignition for couple min. NO help.
I cleared adaptation values in INPA and
I tried driving, thinking it needs adaptation reset. No luck

Please help

What exactly did you do? Some kind of home tuning software? I'd sugest getting it towed to the dealer for an ECU reflash.

Please define the following and we can help you... Sounds like you did something that not many people here are familiar with. You'll have to elaborate on what you did and be very specific with fewer acronyms.

Please define what these are...
ems2k DME
winkfpt program
flash/update DME
inpa
adaptation reset

I had a 'E " message with the same start issue when I did a customers auto ...

I disconnected the battery for a long time (1 hour) ... did a code read ( reset ) and cleared all codes ... now no signals ... and all is good.

Flash back to stock

and see if you get your tranny control back. If so, then I'd guess that your flash file is fubared. Will the car run at all? Was the flash for an auto or manual car? IT's possible that you flashed the car with a program for a manual, and the auto tranny has no one to talk to.

Also, the flash counter isn't really something you need to pay attention to (you may with what you're using, or the factory tools, but many other systems don't incriment the counter when they flash the ECU).

More details on what I did.
I wanted to update my DME on mini cooper 05, made in 09, 2004, ser# TJ65575.
I used bmw winkfpt flash application with files from progman 2.72 DVD copied to nfs and ediabas folders.
I used inpa before to read what dme i have: ems2k, bmw part#7542310 flashed to 7547294.
As far as I know the flash with winkfpt succeded. I did select ems2k to flash but not sure if the version # was choisen the right one.
Now it sounds that i have no contrlo over CVT auto tranny.
The car starts only with gas pedal pressed, and it has to be pressed to stay running. I runs like crappy.
So either the flash file is wrong or there are some other steps to be done.
I have access to DIS/ GT1. If experts can advise how to preseed, please?

I reflashed manually with a closest flash # I could find and it worked like a charm. Everything is 100% now.

Just to follow up for others. When you update your DME flash be sure to choose the right file from the list. Just open it in notepad and it should say Siemens or John Cooper Works. I flashed the John Cooper works one and that's an upgraded kit which I don't have. That was my problem.

You might have selected a flash for a manual trans car that did not include the proper information/interface for the auto trans, hence the error.

Glad you got it sorted out.
