Just Bought my 1st MCS '05 Need Advice

Hi to all,
I have been a member of this forum for the last couple of months, did find it late but better than never...
Just bought a '05 MCS navy blue/black roof with S/R with only 21K Kms/ 12K miles and this is my first Mini, have driven many cars but this is something different. Have put like 30kms/18miles last night (btw i am from Europe) and loved the accelaration, looks and etc. except the noises on the dash :-) is there anything can be done to eliminate or lessen the noise on the dash?
As i am a new and 1st time owner of a MCS, i really would like to hear your advices if there is a speacial way of taking care of the car as it is my 1st time driving a S/C car.
Other thing is the OBC shows like 16miles/gallon(city, not heavy traffic), the first owner was a lady and barely used it...Not any show of abuse or etc. and the car was used only couple of thousand kms within the last year.is this consumption normal?
Other thing is, i have runflats and the tire sign on the dashboard in on at all times. I have looked at the manual and says "if it is on at all times, it is not working" , i will today get it t service but b4 that i would really like to hear your comments.
This tire issue can ve solved, not worried about so much, but fuel consumption is worrying me whether there is a major issue i need to take care of.
And is there anything special attention needed to be given as it is a S/C car?
Thax for the advices in front...
Regards

I would definately reset the OBC that way you know what your really getting with your driving style on mpg....also I would make sure that you have the tires properly inflated and I recommend checking them frequently especially with runflats. 16mpg is a bit low I would say for fuel consumption. If you are going to have it serviced then they can help in resetting the tire light...as for the dash rattles those are unique and takes time to figure out how to get that to stop. Happy Motoring

When you have the "Average Consumption" showing, just hold down on the selection button until it resets. You can do this for the "Average Speed" as well.

For the tires, make sure you have the pressure right. Then, turn the power on, but don't start the car. Hold down on the tire pressure button for a few seconds before actually starting the car. The button is next to the emergency brake. The light should go away shortly after you get moving.

I just took my '05 in to the dealer for a dash rattle. They fixed it under warrenty, but it is a major job. As I understand it, there is a pin holding the dash together (in the middle). The fix is to put some dampening material like felt around this pin. In my case, there was also a loose screw in there. But pulling off the dash requires taking off the A-pillar trim, which has single-use clips and must be replaced. I think the side air bags even have to come off, and so must also be replaced. Not an easy DIY job.

I did what you said, now the car is showing "my" avarage consumption which seems better than the earlier...I am just getting used to car so i am driving on the safe side... But let me tell this, it is just so fun to drive the car... I was with friends last night drinking coffee and even the ambiance was great, i was thinking "when this gonna end, let me drive my car"

Now the light is gone, thnx again...

Btw, should i drive this S/C car as i drive a n/a car? Is there anything speacial i should consider of?

As far as i noticed, the noise comes from the middle of the dash where it meets with the front shield. When you press the very far point of the dash down , noise seems to disappear.
I will use "Wurth" where the dash touches the front shield and seems it ll work, at this moment no need to dismantle the whole dash and hope never will be :-)

in my case I had the same rattles and was the center section that holds the A/C vents and speedo. the mayor rattles come from the speedo ring.
no more rattles from dash after that job in speedo ring and A/C vents.

to do that you need to take off the dash (not top dash) so you don't need to touch the airbar A-pilars

From: Your Worst Nightmare :)
My 05 MCS had a dash rattle that was sooooo bad I nearly got rid of the car (sounded like bubble wrap being popped, right from the top vent area dead center.) Anywho my car was in the shop for a week, where they blew out the windshield, removed the A-pillar a/b covers, and the top of the dash to isolate and reinforce all contact points with every kind of padding and foam they could think of (there IS a service bulletin that covers this issue.) Plus I got a new windshield as well. this was nearly a year and a half ago.

All's been fine here until about a month ago when I noticed the noise, altho muffled, has returned on occasion--right with the onset of cold weather. My only hope is that it gets worse here b4 my warranty expires in 10 months.

PS if the tire light is on, try holding down the little button on the console next to the passenger seat for ten seconds while the car is operation and running. Does it for me everytime (I dont have rf's anymore, and it comes on every now and then.)

I had my '05 to two dealers for numerous rattle fixes - nothing really gets them all out. At least nothing really got them all out of my car. Never thought it'd happen, but I actually stopped caring about them.

Give us some pics of your new car!

Didnt have time to gon the rattle issue so far as biz is pretty taking alot of my time, tinted the front shield and 2 front doors today...
It is basicly a stock one at this moment, i am thinking of installing some mesh style wheels but looking for a good deal, i think mesh goes really well with this car.
Anyway, it is raining like crazy for the last couple of days, once it clears a little, i ll shoot some...
Still, didnt hear anything whetker i should do speacial on this car as it is a S/C car, anything different to be done when driving it compared to n/a car?
Thnx

Thnx for the answer, i was wondering about that alot...
About the glass roof, as all we know the front part is used as a regular s/r. I saw another MCS passing me with his rear part of the s/r flipped up, is that available in all MCS's?
I looked close to everyplace if there is a control for this but could not see it...
