I've plunked a deposit down on a DS/Bl MCS, due in Oct or Nov. Not sure if I am going to keep the sport package on the list.

Any thoughts on DSC? Why do so many on MCO seem to keep the DSC turned off?

How about 16" v 17" tires?

keep the sport package. suspension, sport seats, DSC, etc. were important to me in selecting my options. the rest are 'convenience options', IMO.

Keep the sports pkg. You'll enjoy the seats holding you in as you careen around tight turns at high speeds...

Thanks for the comments, but aren't the sports seats standard in the MCS? I don't think I lose them without the sports package...

I've had 17's and 16's on my car,I can't tell the difference.
Turning off the Dsc is ,in my opinion, for track use or driver's of incredible skill.During hard acceleration, you might also want it off.For spirited driving,it will probably save your butt.

The sport seats are standard on the MCS, as is the sport suspension. Both of those things come with the Sport package on the Cooper.

The 17" S-lites are heavier than the 16" wheels. Xenon headlights are kind of heavy, and they might get stolen if you park in the wrong 'hood.

On the other hand, many people think the 17" wheels look better, and you get stripes.

People turn off the DCS because it sometimes cuts off teh power when trying to launch quickly on a loose surface. There are a ton of threads about it if you search "DCS."

Sport seats come standard on the Cooper S.

DSC and ASC+T both suck *** and you'll be turning them off more than leaving them of. So why pay to have to turn something off? Just take the ASC+T that comes stock.

The 17" MINI rims look like big daisies and are heavy and all get out. The 16" stock rims are a better choice for performance.

The fog lights come with sport, too, but you're better off just buying them seperate if you really want them.

excatly. thus with teh sports package on the mcs, one gets the xenon/fogs, the dsc and 17s

well i opted for not sports package on my mcs. i did get the xenon/fogs and love them, and think you have to get them!!

i had 16 inch x lites with hte dunlop sp5000 and they sucked. the tires sucked, squealed everywhere on the mountains. so i got a free set of s lites with the dunlop sp9000 and now its perfect

in hindsight i would get the 16s and better tires. but since the 17 inch s lites were given to me for free, i love them, love the design, and the 17s fill the wheel wells more

I got the sport package on my 03 MCS. I wanted the Xenons, fogs and 17s. Didn't care about DSC or bonnet stripes, but I think by the time I had purchased separately, I'd have spent the same or more. I think the DSC can probably be very useful, especially if another family member drives the car who doesn't pride themselves on their catlike reflexes. The wheelspin kill thing can be sketchy, though if you forget DSC is on, and say...pull out in front of a tractor trailer thinking you'll be long gone before he gets to you. You wheels spin and the car stops, then kapowww! You have to turn it off if your trying to get unstuck (snow/mud/ice/wet grass) and, of course, if you're autocrossing.

Also, you already know this, but just in case...foglights are not driving lights. I wish I could have picked between DSC and driving lights in the sports package.

I don't have DSC or a sport suspension (...but I do have sport seats). If I were you (or if I were buying an S) I'd just keep the package. You'll enjoy every gadget you get on this car, whether you choose to use it everyday or not. Also, if you're getting an S you'll want as strong a platform as possible for potential tuning. Go for it and don't look back!!!!!!

Do some research on 16 vs 17" wheels on this site. That may help you make up your mind. This message is not meant to **** off anyone with 17s, I am just stating informational facts to help this user choose: In short, the factory S-lites weigh about 9 lbs per wheel more than the factory 16" v-spokes (including run flat tires). This does affect the handling, hence is why you'll see that the JCW version comes with 16"s and many articles say to go with 16"s. However, many do feel that the 17" wheels looks beter and are therefore worth the heavier weight.

I am not going to buy the Sport Pack. I want the 16" x-lites! But I am going to buy the other parts of the Sport Pack alacarte. I want the fogs and xenons and DSC. I have DSC on my car now and I love it. Makes the car hug the road and I can drive the living daylights out of it.

Save the money and get the stock 16" wheel and tire combo. Get the fogs as an option. The Xenons are just not worth it. I currently have one out and it has been over a week and the dealer still hasn't gotten a replacement. They're shipping it from Germany!

i wholeheartedly disagree with this. if u drive with xenons and without xenons u will def notice the diff!!

lastly does the cooper have xenon as an option, or is it for the s only?

after much deliberation and research i ordered my mcs without the sport or premium package. what i did order was this: sunroof (i live in ca), automatic ac, foglights, xenon lights, space cloth seats, and the harmon kardon sound system upgrade and 16" wheels. I had ordered the DSC and then at the last moment decided against it, I would rather make my own decisions about driving and the sales guy told me that he would rather put the 500 towards better wheels and tires unless his 16 year old daughter was going to drive it. a sexist remark but worth noting. i was told by jim at minimania that the xenon headlights are very good and a steal at 500 (retail over 900). the 500 for the DSC i would rather put towards a limited slip differential if i feel the need for it. and the 16" tires (not the factory run flats but aftermarket) handle much better.
there is a lot of peer pressure to go for the DSC so good luck with your decision.

I got the Sports pack

DSC -Traction control portion is horrid - Pants pulling out in traffic if you forget its on (and highly embarrasing when doing an emergancy start for MINI demos ) )
Seemed to do well when there was snow on the ground once moving (but not any good in deep snow or inital launch) - MI wineters give you plenty of opurtunities for controlled drifts -So seems to a good job of "yaw" control if this is your one car and you want to let it take the strain, but you WILL swear at it for the ASC+T portion (p.s anyway to hard wire that portion off you clever software types?)

17 - I love the look of them - they do look a bit like daisies but the car is hard enough to put up with that - I have had to swop my wheels to X lites and back again many times and my butt dyno shows a significant perk up in perforamance with lighter wheels. Peope who say otherwise are sleepin at the wheel

Xenons - not driven a non xenon MIN so no idea what improvements are- The lights do not "shine" stann out as exeptional good. Bonus (or not?) is that they do not glow blue/purple like Beemers

Stripes- I did not get these and thought I hated them - but I have seem some others with bespoke version (i.e Paul Smith "Stylee&quot and they look good

I think I have just made a long list for not to bother with Sport. If you decide you want the S Lites you can always pick these up at a later stage (new through Classic MINI or here or eBay used and install tires of your choosing

Do not fuss to much though - you will enjoy the car regardless
