Hello all,
First of all, I got my BRG MCS about 3 weeks ago, and I cannot drive it enough. I love it.
Okay, now my question. On page 66 of the July 03 edition of Automobile, there is a section on the new models and updates for BMW thru 2007. In 2004, they mention the Mini Convertible and a "Face-lifted Mini" Is this true? Is there going to be any body style changes to the Mini?
Also, the BMW 1 series is coming out. It looks slightly similar. I wonder if it will be sharing any components?

Despite searching this subject and reading all the smartass "do a search; it's already been answered" threads, I'm still not seeing definitive answers to the body and steering wheel changes for '04 question. This is important to me since I ordered and '04 and don't want any surprises.

-Are there or are there not going to be changes to the body of the MINI for '04?

-Is there or is there not going to be a different steering wheel? If so, is the new steering wheel still going to have cruise/radio controls that are in the package I ordered?

Hint: "I don't think so/I can't see why they would change it/I like it the way it is/I don't know" doesn't help.

Thanks.

Good Luck on getting a response. I got beat up pretty bad the first time I asked too, with the "Do a Search?" The best info I've found is at the Bridger Mini site. My dealer says they don't get the info until the end of August. I saw the same article you did, and asked the same question about the face lift. I'll settle for the 03 MCS that is coming for me in August @ Classic Mini in Mentor, OH. Good Luck.

I ordered my MCS today and was told of only 3 changes in 2004.

1. New 3 Spoke Steering Wheel - still MFSW, same buttons, just new style
2. Electric jack in the boot
3. Pepper White available for the MCS

That's all he knew and I am getting an 04.
Due in November.

No fair, I want a jack!...

But it's about time... it's just not right that even though the MCS comes with run-flats that there's no jack...

Just wondering if Pebbles or anyone else can confirm if the 3 spoke wheel is manditory in the S or an option? Available in a cooper (probably an option here though)? I sort of hope it is an option b/c I really like the 2 spoke. Looks very clean and unique. I believe something of this nature has been discussed before, but what's the concensus now  .

I was told by a reliable source that the 3 spoke steering wheel will not be introduced until December '03. So your Sept, Oct and Nov '03 builds will still come with the sport 2 spoke wheel.

My dealer told me about the pepper white available for MCS also.
He also said they are adding Orange to the color choices.

I only know I was told it's going to have the new 3 spoke steering wheel. However, I feel that when the car arrives, whatever steering wheel I get, I'll grab it and motor out of there smiling! In less than 2 hours, it will feel like MINE and that's all I care about is that it's mine and I'll love it.

I would have ordered orange in a heartbeat if it was available for 03! Bastards!
And I think the electric jack they are talking about is the cigarette lighter/power jack in the boot that was in the 02, removed for 03 and is now back for 04. That's the other thing I would really like.
My 03 MCS has a "raise the car" kind of jack already.
Personally, I like the 2-spoke steering wheel. The MFSW is the option that I'm most happy with. LOVE cruise control, and LOVE the stereo controls!

Lets you plug in anything electrical that runs off a cigarette lighter...say...the MINI boot cooler to keep your food and drinks cold on trips...an air matress blower-upper...etc

2002 MINIs had the jack as well, but they took it out of the 2003s for some reason... which angered me, 'cos I ordered the MINI refrigerator expecting that jack to be there. Oh well. I just run the wire to the front one now... but now I have to buy a splitter so I can plug my CB in too.

After trading in my '02 MC for an '03 MCS, I was shocked to find that there was no electric jack in the boot. I don't get it...why take it out? And now to find that they're putting it back in? I want a retrofit!

Also: I saw a 1 Series hatchback crusing down I94 a couple of weeks ago. It is very small and it is very ugly. I hope it shares absolutely NOTHING with the MINI.

It would be the face lift that should be of the most concern to those of us who are slated to get 2004s. Since there are no pics of the car, for all we know it could be a visual abomination. Who knows what their idea of a "face lift" is?

The all new BMW series 1 will be RWD (Versus FWD in the MINI) and it will not share any mechanical components with the current R50 and R53 MINIs. The car will also have a higher base admission price (Around $23K vs $16.5K for a standard Cooper).

I am sure both of these cars will be cross shopped but I am not sure it they will overlap or not in the market.

I am pleased to hear that the rear boot 'power point' will return for the 2004 model year. We were lucky enough to get in our '02 Cooper CVT (August 2002 build) as MINI removed it the following month when the 2003 production started.

CooperSDriver:

Have you heard anything about the addition of the controversial Rear Fog lights as either standard or optional equipment for the '04 production? I would really love to have a full six toggle switch panel in my '04 MCS!.

I heard the cup holders were definitely being modified as BMW was upset with all the negative JD Power comments about the cup holders not being tall enough...they admitted they screwed up and will make a fix, but thought it wouldn't be till 05...not sure how they fix it with the toggles being in the way....not a big deal to me as I use the rear cup holder or my lap, except for McDonalds coffee, laugh !

I haven't heard anything about the rear for lights yet, I have a list of questions for a MINI Rep that will be at the dealership. So I will let you guys know later in the week.

The 1 series will be out next year.
with 4 different engine sizes and I am very interested to see it.
1.6L=?
2.0L=150 HP
2.0L Turbo= 200+ HP
We shall see.
Also keep an eye out for the M2
