R50/53 A little Colorado Mountain Drive with F.G. today
A little Colorado Mountain Drive with F.G. today
He, F.G. aka Brian, is back home from San Diego, or somewhere down there in Cali, and he wanted to drive the Western Dragon with me and head up to the top of Mount Evans. We could not do the last 5 miles, they closed the road as it is already snowing up there, so we stopped at the lake and grabbed a few shots. All in all, we did about 150 miles through the front range, and really enjoyed the western dragon. It was like 40 degrees at the top and 84 degrees here in town. Well, now it is 66, but that is because it just dumped a butt load of rain
I snapped this shot

His wife snapped this as we were headed up the hill.

Geez, next time call, I could have come in from the west end of C103.
Very nice pictures, looks a little cold. The 2nd picture is one of those you want to frame up and put on the wall.
Off to Hastings Friday then China until October, so see you at an event perhaps or lunch on one of your days off, I can travel south if you set it up.

It would have been cool to hook up with you again Don. I had posts in MINI5280 and the RM forum, but no one replied....so I figured everyone was busy :(
Yeah, we will do lunch again in October, probably up north a bit, like Westminster, or somewhere near Flatiron's Crossing.

A few other pics that I liked, I downloaded all the pics from my camera, Brian and his wife's camera and Mike's camera (a local car enthusiast)...Brian is the one driving and running around in the pics, he was always running to get out of the shots, haha.

j/k...we went slow to be safe as well as have time to enjoy the scenery and not indanger wildlife running across the roads.
Plus that rode is very rough in spots! Nice pics Jon. Those two colors blend very well with the overcast - sets a mood. I read that they had closed the top of Mt Evans this past weekend, did you actually see snow or were they just being lazy?
no, they had the gates at the lake closed, so you had to turn around there. There had to be snow up at top, but the clouds were so low, we could not see the top. We saw some unmelted snow peaking through the clouds...you can see it in some of the pictures with the lake in it.
this one has snow in it....in the middle, peaking through the clouds

It is September after all - snow is fair game at this point. That last picture is amazing. The color of the clouds matches the MINI perfectly. Makes me want to hunker down by the fire and drink some good single malt scotch.

Jon, nice set of pictures, I will see if I can find any MINI bling in Beijing.
I'll send you a PM when I get back after the first of Oct.
Wish I drank scotch, or anything for that matter, Chuck's idea sounds good. I am actually really ready for winter, even if it means the MINI goes into hybernation.
Don, sounds good, I will look forward to hearing about your trip. My parents just got back from there about 2 months ago, got my wife and I some t-shirts for the olympics.....you know that saying, "my parents went to China and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!!!" Well, it's true. They got them in extra large, as I am the chubby one, well, our extra large compared to the chinese extra large is way different. My shirt barely fits my wife, who wears a small, haha.
If you find some cool MINI bling, keep me in mind
you know how I LOVE bling!!!
