My MINI key activated a Mazda 5 tonight

I was walking to my MINI in a parking lot tonight. I was about 300 ft from my car and about 500 ft from a Mazda 5. I was showing my daughter how I can unlock the MINI and make the lights flash from this distance by touching the key to my chin when pressing the key button.

Wham-bang, I pressed the key and instantly unlocked my MINI and also activated the alarm of the Mazda 5. After about five seconds I hit the lock button and the Mazda stopped squaking.

Anyone have a similar experience. I wonder what his key would do to my MINI?

Pretty sure his Mazda key would make your MINI do something like this...

My Saturn remote opens a co-worker's Honda Odyssey if we park too closely.

I've heard of people's garage door openers opening other garages other than their own - but this is the first I've seen posted about the MINI key opening other cars.. That could be kinda fun at times...

I wouldn't worry about it too much - the odds of it happening to you are pretty remote!

(Bah-dum-ching! )

HAH! yup I have done this before! clicked my button in the mall parking lot and set off the alarm of the SUV beside me. Pressing the lock button turned the alarm off and made his horn honk. Brilliant fun!

Not a remote-control story, but I was buying some plants at a nursery about 20 years ago, and gave my keys to the nursery worker so he could start loading up my car while I finished paying. When I got out to the parking lot, he was loading the plants into the trunk of the wrong car! Same make, same model, parked just a few spots down from mine, and it evidently used the same door/trunk key.
