R50/53 OEM alarm
>>Is the OEM suppose to chirp like the BMW ones? Just got it installed and noticed
>> it does not chirp like the one in my BMW. Is this a dealer program option?
I heard that it does, but my dealer knows nothing about it. Kind of like the "Low Fuel" chime they never heard of either.
My alarm is silent as well...would be nice to have just to make sure it's set without having to watch for the lights to blink.
Cheers,
Bill

The online owners manual gives the best detailed explanation of how the dealer installed alarm functions. Very little in the actual owners manual
And as said before it only chirps when not secure
Good luck

Yeah, but I had heard that there were new programming options that actually let you choose between multiple sounds. Actually I would be happy with a choice of one.
If the programming is changed after the printing of the manual I wouldn't think that they'd reprint the manual. Apparently though, it was just an urban legend.

You can get it to chirp if you put your key in the door and rotate it to the rear of the car and hold it there (like you are closing the sunroof and windows). It will chirp once all the windows are closed and the door locks.

Thanks everyone for the response and confirmation. I talked to my service advisor and he states the install manual does talk about chirping but it is not available yet. He states it will be available soon though......we shall see.
Interesting to note that BMW alarms in Europe do not chirp ... seems on those in North America get the chirp. Personally I prefer the non-chirp mode. Why do I need to advertise that it's armed ... that's what the little blinking light is for!
