Mini oil chge interval's are excessive. I have chged mine ever 5000 miles. If you are in for the long ride consider. Remember BMW warranty will is long gone if you intend 100,000 miles or more. If you go to MiniMania .com - under articles you will find how to reset service interval yourself!

Being in Vancouver, your MINI dealer normally advises you to do an oil change inbetween the intervals without resetting the indicator. At 10,000 kms or so.

You don't need to do a full "oil service" every time. They charge less to just do an oil and filter change, though still quite a bit.

this is interesting...should you not follow the on board computer when it comes to the oil changes? I think they are excessive as well (at least so far, my 06 has 12,500 miles on it and the computer says I have 500 miles to go to my FIRST oil change...help? I don't want to screw up my car!!!

I agree. I did mine at 10,000 kms. without resetting the OSL. I used Castrol 5W-40 and occasionally adds small amounts of Redline 5W-30 to bring full oil level. I think I will use Redline next time and at an earlier interval of 9,000 km as the engine is getting older.

Don't sweat it. Europeans have been doing this since sythentics have been out. For some reason people in the US think that BMW and every oil company are out to get them. Bottom line is that synthetics can go well over 15K without breaking down, this is lab proven. Just keep it topped off and you should be fine.
