Minis don't have trunks so you can't have this problem...lol.
Sorry I don't know the answer. are the doors unlocked?

Jam your arm inbetween the back of the seat (if you have access to the inside) and the that cardboard thing to pop the seat release. That's what I had to do when my trunk stopped working during a super rain storm.

I guess now you learned to have your plastic key in you wallet now.

Try flipping up the rear parcel shelf?

Or try jamming your arm between the back seat and the shelf and see if you can reach the seat release.

That's if Jurrell's suggestion doesn't work, and you have access to the inside.

If not, go look for your spare or valet key!

Sawzall through the parcel tray. How much could that cost to replace? Hahha!

By the way, unless you're posting with your cell phone you should probably spell out "you" instead of texting "U". Easier to read...

Do that ninja move of Uma Thurman's on the rear window. She used it in 'Kill Bill' to break wood or something. You would have to replace the window, but it would make a sweet YouTube video. Be sure to get a good angle.

pop the rear seat cushion up - see that little handle, centered but a little toward the passenger side? Pull it.

Don't worry, nothing will explode. Trust me... ;-)

Yup Yup! When pulling the seat up, it is three tabs that hold it down on the back and 2 in the front (i believe.) Just grab in the middle-ish and pull straight up, it will pop and with no damage, pull the little rip-cord looking thing, then push the seat back down until you hear it 'pop' back into place.

Maybe I am missing something here, but if you are inside the car, why not just hit the door unlock button, then get out and open the hatch the normal way??? On my 04, if the doors were unlocked, so was the hatch (which makes sense since it is realidy accessible from the interior anyway). I have comfort access on my 07 so it's not an issue.

Why go to all the bother pulling the rear latch release that’s under the back seat, if you’re in the MINI just use the unlock switch on the dash.

Sure do it the easy way

But didn't you read the first post mentioning that the battery was either dead or was not in the car? Switchy wont worky then...

Ok, so the first post said nothing of the sort, I'll be on my way now

Actually the first doesn’t say a thing about the battery being dead.

BTW 02’s don’t have the pull cord under the back seat.

Same thing happened to me when i was installing my fog lights, just put your hand through the parcel shelf, it will scratch your hand but thats the only way to get the keys out of there.

Seriously though, the only time that mechanical release is needed is if your battery is dead, or disconnected, because the normal boot release is battery operated. I've never used my inside release, but some who have been doing engine work and had the battery disconnected and then closed the boot have used it. If you have an 02 then its alittle harder to get back there.

My 03, the switch on the dash will not operate the locks if the key is out of the ignition and a door has been opened.

I can shut the car off, take the key out and use the switch all I want, but as soon as a door is opened, the switch is dead.
