Anybody have any rust issues on their cars yet?

Anybody have any rust issues on their cars yet? I just got hit on my 07 (4 weeks old) on the door. its half the size of a dime but it looks like it might have gone past the primer. i used to have a 2004 and a 2005 MINI and never had any rust (but none had bare metal showing). reason i am posting here is because since some of you guys have had your cars for awhile you would better be able to tell me if MINIs rust easy. im aware of the door sill rust problem. im not really concerned about that. what i would like to know is if you guys have any dings on your bonnet or doors that go to the primer/metal and have had rust form. this will give me some indication if the 2007s would rust easy too. the dent is somewhat small and i might be able to live with it (plus they want $500 to fix it) but if its going to rust i will fix it ASAP. BTW i live in cleveleand where they use salt on the road 5 months out of the year.

also for you gurus out there, if i dont fix it and the spot does rust. how easy is it to get rid of. will my door be toast once i see any rust forming?

Well since no one else has responded, I have a 1/8" diameter stone chip on my bonnet just below the passenger side headlight that is down to the primer. However, my MC is only 8 months old and the chip has only been there for about 4 months, and so far no rust. I am planning on touching it up soon (just need to order the touch-up paint).

I have several chips from highway driving that are down to primer - no rust (car is a year old).

FYI - some people have been having trouble getting on NAM recently - could be why the slow response.

I have key scratches that are deep I haven't been able to pay for yet and they haven't rusted. Though I do keep it as clean as possible.

I can't comment on rust as I've had my MCS for 2 days but I also live in the south so it's unlikely to happen. If your worried about the exposed area and can't swing the repair right now I'd cover it with some touch up paint just to protect the area. When you do have it repaired they can just re-do the spot properly. Cars in gneral are pretty well protected these days so I think you're OK but surface oxidation can happen on just about anything so if you cover the bare metal with something it will seal out the elements.

i have had my car for 6 months.. on my drivers door.. on the inside rim of the door.. now how the hell these got there i dont know.. but its 3 full chips down to the primer.. its still under warranty, and its not in any place that could get hit by road debris.. its more annoying to me, im even sure no one else sees them, and i only see them when i open the door.. but no rust.. the car was shipped by ship in feb.. and i live in the south, so hopefully it wont go any farther

Actually it wasn't clear or I wouldnt have asked that. I had no idea you were worrying about rust from the older cars while talking about the new car.
